    Van Halen planning Australian tour?

    From Blabbermouth:

According to Australia's long-running rock station Triple M, VAN HALEN is locking in dates for an Australian tour to support a new album that should be out by August this year.

"VAN HALEN dates are getting locked in. They'll be here with David Lee Roth," Triple M music reporter Nui Te Koha announced this morning on Triple M Melbourne's "Hot Breakfast", "VAN HALEN representatives were here with THE EAGLES during THE EAGLES tour in December."

He added: "They're recording a new album at the moment. [Guitarist] Eddie Van Halen says he doesn't want to do any shows until there is new material. And that new material should be out by August."

Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony told ABC News Radio that he's "looking forward" to hearing the band's new album, which is currently being recorded and will feature original singer David Lee Roth behind the mic for the first time in 27 years. Anthony said, "I'm looking forward to seeing what they'll do," adding that he has "no hard feelings" about being replaced by Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang, in 2005.

Anthony said he has not spoken to anyone in VAN HALEN since the end of the band's 2004 tour, which featured a reunion with singer Sammy Hagar after an eight-year split.

Eddie Van Halen did not initially want Anthony playing on that trek either, but relented when Hagar insisted on it. The bass player was forced to take a pay cut and give up his rights to any future use of the VAN HALEN name. Anthony said, "The tour did not end as harmoniously as we would have liked it to."

VAN HALEN staged a successful reunion tour with Roth in 2007 and 2008, with rumors of a new album persisting since then. The group began recording last month with producer John Shanks.

VAN HALEN's last full album, "Van Halen III", came out in 1998 and featured the only appearance of EXTREME singer Gary Cherone as lead vocalist.

August does seem a ways off.. Especially if they're in the studio now. The article does say BY august and not IN august. Who knows? Its all just rumors at this point anyway.
Do albums get released in Australia at the same time as they do in north America?

    Yup.

I mean, according to a buncha Christian zealots, Jesus is coming back in May. I hope he doesn't do anything rash until the VH tour is over and I have seen them once more, lol.

    EXACTLY!

From September 2000 - March of 2001 I was in chemotherapy. One of the main things I thought about was "please God, let me get through this & live long enough for Van Halen to get back together and see them in concert". That was one of the thoughts that kept me going. Gotta get through this cause I know those fuckers will get back some day.

Unfortunately we have lost some good people that never got the chance to see the tour that would have loved it. It's an outrage how much time these guys will waste depriving some people the chance to ever see them that 1 time or hear just 1 more new single.

Was actually 3 bands on my list.....VH with Dave, The Police, Journey with Steve Perry. I got 2/3 in the same year. Trust me when I say I was starting to worry that if Journey suddenly announced a reunion that same year that I was a goner for sure.

I don't know. The reunion tour seemed announced plenty in advance. You'd think we'd hear album news from a source with more confirmation than just hearsay. Why on Earth would they tour Australia first? No, no, none of this adds up at all.

Isn't Australia pretty close to Southern CA? I mean compared to Japan, China & even Europe. A shitload of Aussies always come to San Diego on vacation because we are the closest spot in the states. So Australia would make sense being that Van Halen is Los Angeles based.

Here are the directions from Japan to California, including a stop in Hawaii. Pay close attention to step #27.

When they announced the 2007/08 Tour, I thought they'd tour Europe, Japan and Australia, as in a joke Dave talked about "saving" them
    during the press conference.

    at more or less 4:00
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIFGW4Ms6Fo

That was in early September 2007, a new album was "planned". They are only recording it now (hopefully...)...
The American Tour was a huge success - but VH did not cross the Atlantic, nor the Pacific.

They're taking their time, to say the least...

Is that August in Australia time or U. S. time? I mean they pick up their Garbage on Monday's and Wednesdays (just plain weird) and thier Bidet's shoot Chicken Soup or something right, so maybe they meant Smarch (Damn Misprinted Calenders).

With Ed on the wagon here's to the album getting out with in a month or 2 of its "planned" release. The last time he was like this was Balance. That was the only time I believe he was sober. Looking forward to it.

    Alright smart ass, very funny.

I know it's across the damn ocean. Just wasn't sure the difference in distance between there & Japan where VH has played. Looked it up, these are for non-stop flights.

Los Angeles to Sydney = 14 hour 55 minute flight

Los Angeles to Tokyo = 11 hour 45 minute flight

For the extra 3 hours, I'd much rather go Down Under than turn Japanese.

What was fucking me up was my friend who has lived in Beijing for a few years just flew back to NYC and it was a 19 hour flight.

But wait...shouldn't the flight to Australia be faster than the return since you are going downhill?

Los Angeles to Sydney = 14 hour 55 minute flight

Los Angeles to Tokyo = 11 hour 45 minute flight

For the extra 3 hours, I'd much rather go Down Under than turn Japanese.

What was fucking me up was my friend who has lived in Beijing for a few years just flew back to NYC and it was a 19 hour flight.

But wait...shouldn't the flight to Australia be faster than the return since you are going downhill?

I once flew to New York via Japan - flight took a full blown day 24 hours (not including stop over). Will never do that again...unless I pay extra dosh for a first/business class ticket and (hopefully) get seated next to a good sort, and get served cookies. (ala Seinfeld)

hawaii is the closest state to oz.
however, if ed and dave go to oz.......ash, you gotta get dan to fly over from NZ to go to the show with you........

i put ed's 07/08 playing in the middle somewhere with the "w.d.f.a. tour", "hide your sheep tour" and the "1984 world tour".
still fiery on ocassion, but mostly going through the motions and at time down right mediocre or just plain awful......very average even by evh standards.

Agreed !! That's why I still love my good old uncle Ted. He whips out a decent album every year and hit's the road for 6 month's until hunting season. A real rock & roller !! In his 60's at that !! Ed and Dave must be getting along great for Dave to want to stick around half the summer before hitting the road again. That payday he got from the last tour would have made me walk !! Ed's a bum.
