Oh, and don't forget, Eb tuning...because we're a CVH group, we're not doing a Van Hagar tribute!Originally posted by conmee

I don't think we need a 'score' per se. My notational skills are rusty at best, I use MusEdit for the rare times I want to transcribe something. I think since most of us ARE players, a chart would do just fine...y'know, such as:
Riff 4x
Verse section 8x
Chorus 4x
etc, etc.....

Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!Comment

We could do the verses like one of those list songs like 'End of the world as we know it' or 'We didn't start the fire' and but just list dozens of lies Sammy Hagar has told.Comment

Then you'd run the risk of the song turning into one of those 45 minute Dream Theater snorefests.

LOL! I tune down to Eb all the time anyway. Figured that out in the late 70s when trying to play along with Kiss records. And it does add a bit of meat to the guitars, AND makes it easier to sing.Comment

5 minutes max. That is about my favorite time frame anyway. Gives you enough time to have 3 verses, some choruses and a bridge and solo section, with even a nice fadeout if ya want.Comment

Yep, and I've lost count of the singers I've worked with over the years, particularly in cover bands, that cried about it at first - to which I always responded "Let's have this discussion again before the 3RD SET" - who've come back to me at that point and said "DUDE, you're RIGHT - I'm not dyin' tonight, good idea!" Sometimes the singer doesn't realize it until they try it.Originally posted by conmee

Well, the writing has to come first in a way.
Heck I dunno....All the guitar players come up with a riff or two, vote on which ones to use, then which ones go where.....verse? Chorus?
We need the main groove first. Intro, lead solos, actual bass line, vocals all can come later. Just need to know what the basic vibe of the song is gonna be first......it could be a bass riff even.
And even once we have a basic idea, we can modify it as we go on...just need to figure out what the arrangement will be...how many verses, choruses, A parts, B parts, how many times repeat each riff...
Once Kwame knows what kinda direction we are going in, and once we have a rough arrangement, he can lay down some drums and we can begin recording for real.Comment
