    Now THIS is rich!

Hacker group Anonymous has a hackathon targeting Westboro Baptist Church who had planned a protest for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School disaster.

Anonymous' Hackers Target Westboro Baptist Church After Protest Plans

In a showdown that rivals Predator vs. Alien, the hacker group Anonymous has set its sights on bringing down the hate group Westboro Baptist Church.

Westboro, whose members are more at home conducting despicable protests at the funeral processions of U.S. military servicemen, announced that they were going to have similar protests at the funerals of the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. In a strike to wound Westboro, the activist group Anonymous hacked the names, phone numbers, and social security numbers of numerous people it said are members of Westboro Baptist Church, which is based in Topeka, Kansas. The data dump also included the names of multiple members’ children and grandchildren. According to Information Week, the Anonymous attack was documented in a YouTube video (available here), which informed Westboro of the hit coming its way. “Your downfall is underway. Since your one-dimensional thought protocol will conform not to any modern logic, we will not debate, argue, or attempt to reason with you.” Instead, Anonymous promised to wage a sustained assault that would “progressively dismantle your institution.”

Anonymous also claimed to have changed Westboro spokeswoman Shirley Phelps-Roper’s PC desktop wallpaper to gay porn, and filed a death certificate in her name, which would prevent her from using her social security number. Anonymous don’t play!

Meanwhile, on Monday Phelps-Roper’s Twitter account was taken over by someone who claimed to be the hacker Cosmo The God, and who posted several tweets to the account about the takeover. Wired reported that Cosmo is a 15-year-old hacker who was arrested in June by the FBI, and who remains on probation until his 21st birthday, before which time he’s not supposed to use a computer without supervision. If it is THE COSMO, I’m saying we cut the kid a break.

I know that the FBI has had its problems with Anonymous but our country has struggled to find ways to curb the Freedom of Speech that Westboro has, in my opinion, abused. It looks to me like Anonymous has found a way to stay off the FBI’s watch list and at the same time harass a group that deserves a bit of harassment. My hope is that the FBI looks the other way on this one.

In other news, the KKK has announced that it will counter the protests of Westboro at military funerals at Arlington National Cemetery.

Your enemy's enemy is your friend? The Ku Klux Klan stepped in to counter a protest by the homophobic Westboro Baptist Church at the Arlington National Cemetery yesterday.

I’m thinking Predator vs. Alien writers will never run out of material.
In general I hate White Power assholes, but I give kudos to anyone who fucks with the WBC assholes.

WBC claimed they were coming here to protest at the school shooting victim's funerals but they never showed.

It's not so much that, but they get the reaction they crave without having to travel. Like the old saying goes, "Say or print whatever you want about me, just make sure you spell my name right."

She may not be wrong with the way Obama is negotiating the fiscal cliff crap: raising taxes on the "rich" won't even take care of 8% of the annual deficit we rack up let alone cut into the $16 Trillion amassed so far. He said he wants a balanced approach yet doesn't want to cut spending...or delay spending cuts until "later." Yeah, right. We take in $5 Billion a day in revenue and spend $11 Billion. If that's not trying to deliberately crash the economy, I don't know what is.

So, the shooter was on an atypical antipsychotic called Fanapt...

Atypical antipsychotics are better than the average gold mine - these drugs are gold mines with pearl-encrusted walls and champagne springs in which to bathe your feet. If you don’t happen to be a drug company executive, however, the mine is less comfortable and far more expensive. Branded (non-generic) versions of atypical antipsychotics can cost over $1,000 per month, according to Consumer Reports. And they’re not just for schizophrenia any more; other conditions, from depression to stuttering, now account for 40% of antipsychotic sales.

With billions at stake for Big Pharma, it’s important to be aware that you are the focus of a marketing push. Make it your business to learn all you can. If you’re depressed, for instance, and considering Abilify, read this first. Before you ask your doctor for Seroquel for bipolar depression, read this. And whether or not you decide to take an atypical antipsychotic, don’t let your reading end there.

But this is not a story about drug side effects or risks to consumers. To help celebrate National Drug Facts Week (Nov. 8-14), this is a story is about Pharma, and the unlikely rags-to-riches-to-rags tale of the seventh atypical antipsychotic in the U.S., a drug called Fanapt (generic name iloperidone).

                  Fanapt is born

Cooked up in the labs of Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Fanapt was intended as a replacement for Clozaril, a true blockbuster with, unfortunately, an expired patent. That meant Clozaril could be sold cheaply, generically, and Novartis could no longer command the high prices they had come to count on. Enter Fanapt.

                  Fanapt is dumped

During the development process, Novartis ran into problems. Whatever they found, it wasn’t good, because they basically tossed Fanapt into the garbage.

But another pharmaceutical company, Vanda, snatched it up and ran with it - all the way to the FDA.

Vanda goes to the FDA - and loses

In July 2008, the FDA issued a “not approvable” letter on the new drug. (In other words: no dice, Vanda.)

Fanapt had performed better than placebo, but not as well as drugs already on the market, such as Risperdal and Geodon. And Fanapt was never compared to leading antipsychotic drugs like Seroquel. In addition, there were problems with irregular heart rhythms, low blood pressure and weight gain. And, as with Clozaril, patients were required to start at a small dose and gradually build up to a higher dose.

The FDA told Vanda to run more trials and gather more safety data.

Vanda ignores the FDA - and wins

Vanda did none of those things. Instead, in November, they simply resubmitted the drug to the FDA, using leftover data from the original clinical trials.

It was such a jaw-dropping long shot that Vanda’s investors couldn’t get rid of stock fast enough. Stock prices fell below $1, and the company’s worth plummeted to less than cash on hand. At Vanda, there were layoffs and cutbacks, followed by a proxy fight trying to force Vanda to shut down, sell off its assets, and give any remaining money back to the shareholders.

Then, on May 6, 2009, stock analyst Adam Feuerstein observed something strange: “Hell froze over Wednesday night, right before a squadron of flying pigs took to the sky.”

For reasons only clear to the FDA, the new schizophrenia drug had been approved.

                  Fanapt flies high

That evening, Vanda shares shot up 800%. And the next day, stock rose 625.9%.

Novartis realized it might have thrown away something that, on second thought, looked mighty good. So they went to Vanda and asked if they could work something out. Vanda agreed, but there was a condition. If Novartis paid them $200 million up front, plus royalty and “milestone” payments up to $265 million, then Vanda would let them do the marketing for Fanapt.

If it seems strange that Novartis would pay to do the marketing for a drug it had discarded, Novartis CEO Joe Jiminez tried to explain: “We have to look very hard before we give up on a compound.”

But the partnership seemed to be working. Fanapt sales for the first quarter of 2010 came to $21 million. Not bad - except that it’s a $14-20 billion dollar market. Still, analysts called it “a solid start.”

                  Fanapt falls flat

It didn’t last long. Just three months later, Vanda reported second quarter sales of only $0.7 million. And stock that had traded for $12-15 was going for under $7.

The fairy tale was over. On October 18, Fanapt made the list of “Pharma’s Biggest Flops,” coming in at #4. The dubious honor was bestowed by FiercePharma, an industry site.

                  "Pick up some Vanda shares"

Vanda isn't giving up, however. For one thing, they are working on an injectable form of the drug. While the patent on oral Fanapt will run out in 2016, the patent on the injectable wouldn’t expire until 2023. Moreover, Vanda has full rights for distribution overseas.

And some investors are optimistic. One of them is Joseph Krueger, who wrote: “Right now, I feel it is a good time to pick up some Vanda shares.”

The folks at FiercePharma probably won’t be in line for those stocks. “When it comes down to it,” they wrote, “there is too much competition in the antipsychotic industry, between highly regarded brand names and lower-priced generics.

“Fanapt never had a chance in the market.”

So you're still blaming Obama for 32 years of BCE "two Santa Claus" reverse Robin Hood Randtard economic policies??

Here's the simple answer. Fuck the fiscal mole hill, simply roll the tax rates AND the "defense" spending back to where they were in 1980.

First off, retirees already pay taxes. And no, I've said repeatedly that there should be a cut-off for taxes. $20,000 Was just one figure I threw around for debate. The fact that half of all US workers don't pay income tax (I'm not talking payroll taxes now. They are completely different.) is insane.

It's amazing how the "Bush Tax Cuts" were evil to liberals when they first came out, yet now that is what the Democratic Party, along with Republicans, is pushing for...minus cuts for those that provide jobs.

Why is maintaining the tax cuts for every tax bracket except the top one now so important when it wasn't back then? Democrats whined when taxes were cut for the middle class back then.
