Speaking at a political fundraiser at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., on Wednesday night, Trump reiterated his view that the Russian president’s incursion into the sovereign nation was a stroke of “genius.”
“I mean, he’s taking over a country for $2 worth of sanctions,” Trump said. “I’d say that’s pretty smart. He’s taking over a country — literally a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people, and just walking right in.” The former president went on to insist that he knew Putin very well and that the crisis would not have happened if he were in office.

Andrew Bates, the White House deputy press secretary, responded with a scathing tweet.
“Two nauseating, fearful pigs who hate what America stands for and whose every action is driven by their own weakness and insecurity, rubbing their snouts together and celebrating as innocent people lose their lives,” Bates tweeted.Comment

Ukraine isn’t going to beat Russia in a war. How you control Russia is by lowering the oil price. That means starting up US oil production. Russia is an oil economy. They are a one trick pony.No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

There is no rational way to "control" Russia at this point. Invading the Ukraine is one of the most singular irrational things a world leader has done in the last 50 years. But the Russian Army shitting itself then then having to occupy the Ukraine, while it's economy fucks itself to death via sanctions, is a good start to its overall death...Comment

Interesting comments by a Moscow based military analyst. One of the problems that Russian military is going to have is that while they have a large standing army of 168 "tactical battalions", they effectively have no strategic reserve of manpower in reality. Once they blow their wad here, they're going to have real problems and maybe NATO should consider a more militant stance...
