Yup. Oak is also a very open grained wood. I've never heard of it being used in guitars. It will be interesting to see what it will sound like.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

It's not the tone but the look of Oak...

            It's a bit "low rent."

Brian may's guitar is made out of oak.I got a shit load of wood from the thrift store and ordered the golden madrone.
It's gonna have the shape like a classic car ..i wanna hide the bridge hardware etc with bumper shapes carved out of solid wood..LOL
I'll post more pics tomorrow.I worked on it today.I'm using other types of wood too.

              cheers roth on!!

This is a pic of the back.Still gonna work on the contour shape.Anybody know a tremelo system without springs?I only know bigsby. Is there a cool tremelo bridge out there?Does steinberg use springs?BTW the oak is real easy to saw and is lovely with sandpaper.

You could use a Kahler trem, no need for rear routing with those.

Kahler International builds the top Guitar and Bass Tremolos in the world. Made in the USA. Beware of counterfeits, buy a genuine Kahler!

I just routed an Explorer for a Kahler 2200-BN that my brother bought me for a gift...

BN stands for Black Nickel...a color you'll notice Kahler doesn't readily offer...

My Kahler stays in tune without a locking nut, did you bother with one?

You know, I installed it against my better judgment without trying it first...

I don't like fooling with locking down strings...

I just usually oil the nut slots...

I haven't strung it up yet...

But I doubt I'll lock it down unless it's a problem...

I seem to spend half my life looking for allen/hex keys plus if you break a string it's game over.
