Might have to save up for either a LH series head, or a VC combo...
Although, I'm tempted to get a 6534 and slap some KT77's in it.
IIRC, Laney has TAD brand tubes out-of-the-box... Swap the preamp tubes, and it'll clear up nicely.
To be fair, the LH is a 6L6-based amp which is a very difficult tube to get clipping nicely, the full frequency spectrum.
The LH's limited by the tube itself, to its credit it does sound more like a Fender in the cleans, but it does get some useable distortion - just not enough for a "British" amp, with the pedigree Laney's are known for.
This is not the amp to go shoving KT77's into, it's just not designed for that - I really wouldn't think of doing that at all for .. several paragraphs of boring reasons I won't snooze you with here.
I mean, if Fender won't build a nice amp like this with such beatiful cleans based on the venerable 6L6, the market need just dictates someone else will! So Laney came up with this..
The main problem with that soundclip, is the Celestion Seventy-80. That's the most physically stiff speaker Celestion ever made.. a schoolyard chain-link fence has softer compliance than that thing!
Like the Rocket 50 (which Laney has also used) the Seventy-80 is also made in China. I like it even less than the old G12M-70.. and just like the 70, the Seventy-80 sounds like it was ALSO designed with the intent on limiting Solid-state ice-pick treble tones with a super-stiff compliance web beneath the cone. I've experimented with 'em and they don't have decent range.
If this guy in the clip had greenbacks, G12H-30's, 65's, 75's or V30's you'd hear greater definition - more than changing out the preamp tubes could do for him.
Yeah, and sometimes both dry...
I also run a Behringer V-Amp Pro for added EQ and the cab simulator, that really works well...
My coolest stereo effect comes from splitting my signal from my guitar into my MP1 and JHE pedal into the separate amps. The rotating speaker effect sounds awesome on one amp with the MP1 delivering it's dry crunch on the other...

I used a very wet sound for years but now I'm enjoying it dry...
It forces me to play much cleaner...
Wow that's quite the compact setup, comparatively.
I mean I've seen some guys do a gig with a PodXT and an AVT combo, and it sounds tinny and fucked up in front of the stage where the chicks shake ass.. but at the back of the club where the PA impacts the bass-end, it hits and I often wonder "geez, that guy sounded shitty up there, but awesome back here" and it almost wins me over.
Maybe you only use one combo for church, and run wet to the PA -OR- run both combos, or run both AND juice the PA.
How big is that place anyways, packed? 200? 500?
I did that for over a decade, then as I got more cover gig work I started adding a few things here and there for versatility - first a chorus and a wah, then I decided to add a little more. Still the only things in front of my amp are a Boss TU-2, an MXR Micro Amp and the Vox wah...I'm currently running an MXR EVH Phase 90 and a Line 6 MM-4 and DL-4 (in that order) in my Boogie's loop. Nothing's ever on all the time though.
My buddy has a (now) identical (except for the fact it's a long chassis) MK III and we've run them in stereo via my DL-4 for giggles...sounds SICK. He'd totally let me borrow it, too- but 2 half stacks is kind of overkill for a cover gig... (not to mention quick channel changes x2 involves tap-dancing).
Sell the Mesy Booger and get a pair of nice combo amps...
Here's Eddie making animal noises through his Fender Deluxe Reverb amp backstage. He had this same amp in 1984 when I was working as a day hire for the road crew. This is the Van Hagar era so beware!
That's good advice, it would cost him $600 in repairs to restore that amp to sound any good, and the Mark5 does cleans WAY better, with an extra channel to boot - available in combo form, too. It'd be cheaper to just sell and buy new stuff.
But that would make him happy, which would bring change and he's quite solid being miserable thank you very much.
If I was him preferring Boogies and cramped in that little mancave of his, that's exactly what I'd do: call Tien Lawrence and blow a bunch of bullshit up his ass, beg for a C-endorsement and plunk down $3grand for a pair of Mark5 combos.
You can't have a chorus and not run stereo! Forget it. Mono-channelled delay devices (chorus, echo, flange) ALL sound lush in stereo because when you got that one unaffected channel running concurrent to a wet channel it gives the ear a 3-D effect called "spatial perception" as if the source is physically changing or moving it's position, when actually you are creating micro-harmonic phase cancellations and doing this in mono is impossible.
Let me be very blunt: it's called CHORUS because of the doubling of tones. Double = TWO. You need 2 completely, physically isolated amplification units to "double" the note being reproduced.
2 different amps, 2 different speakers.. or cabs, or stacks as is the case with some folk.. nyuknyuknyuk!
You wouldn't be a pathetic, fat, bald racist douchebag internet stalker pariah living in a cardboard box with no friends posting from the library in Alhambra wouldja? Riiight...you wish you had a "cramped mancave"...(nothing cramped about my place, not like YOU'VE been there to know).
But unfortunately (for you) you're not, so you ARE all of the above. Sucks to be you!
And $600 to service my amp? WTF crack are YOU smoking, idiot? Try not even a third of that. Stupid.
I'm the guy who's had a few unconventional workings done to my amps Jay I know what I'm talking about.
Good news though, Christmas is coming up and if you don't have a chick to treat, you need to give yourself a present -
SO if you do anything I've advised, do this - it's free - call up there to Petaluma and ask to speak to Tien and beg for mercy.
Free fucking phone call, no commitment just talk to him ask could he do this for you.
I'm telling you, one listen to your soundclick page he's going to want to help. Out of mercy. Just ask him for a C-level endorsement I think it's 40% off retail.. tell him you'd like two M5 combos @ 1200 apiece plus tax, you should get in there for under $3 grand.
He'll set you up, just nail down the deal with a deposit in Hollywood then set out to sell some CRAP.
Let go: move 3 guitars, that crummy Carvin and M3 head.. there's your 3K. In the meantime just practice direct to PC and you should have these things by Xmas.
No he hasn't since I haven't posted any, and unlike you he's not stalking anyone here... so FUCK OFF and die in a fire, shitbag. :dafinger:
And it's not that kind of party, Nitro - and I'm no longer even flattered by his advances.
What's that adage ".. you can lead a horse" ?
In your case "opinions are like assholes" is more fitting...especially when said unsolicited opinion comes from an asshole.
You're only getting older: FACT.
If you don't like to have nice new things that's your issue.
Boogie's the nicest, most artist-friendly company I can think of and you happen to like their stuff - I don't know why you resist making a move unless you have no confidence in yourself.
And you've still got what, a decade minimum on me so you're still OLDER, gramps.
I do. I also like the amp that's killed everything (including other Boogies) I've put it up against. It ain't broke, so why "fix" it? If and when I get a MK V, won't be dumping old faithful, so get the fuck over it and back on topic, bitch. If you don't like to have nice new things that's your issue.
Confidence isn't an issue - I'm not the one who spends my life trying (and failing) to tear people down on the Internet to mask my own insecurity - that'd be YOU. You're the pathetic, no-gear-owning loser, remember?Boogie's the nicest, most artist-friendly company I can think of and you happen to like their stuff - I don't know why you resist making a move unless you have no confidence in yourself.
Boogie treats me great, btw. Bendinelli asked for my serial # and pulled MY amp's schematic to make my friend's green-stripe into a duplicate of my red-stripe. Not like you'd know...
Maybe you should start smoking again...
I think what he's smoking is the problem, because if his amp has something particular about it I will see that in the schematic.
Fork it over, Jay and I'll tell you what's the deal with that one.
(It's so special that it's hidden qualities must be in the canine-range of hearing) - I just don't hear it.
NO - you know what: I think I've heard this before from you in the past "my amp / Boogie has schematic / freinds copying"
Post it, or start recording with a new amp that works without hissing and bad tubes.
Shit. Dr. Phil belongs here.
He'd have a field day with the dude obsessing on other people's gear....the one assuming he knows what tracks were recorded with what, and the age of other people's tubes...much less the difference in the circuits of a green-stripe MK III vs. a red-stripe.
He'd probably review the situation and pronounce "This GAyR character needs to DIE IN A FIRE..."
As for the differences in the circuits...surprised asshat hasn't GOOGLED it.
Hand wired dog shit is still dog shit...
I'm not sure how you would do that.
