    Better Call Saul

Like you guys, I am strongly considering trying to forget about this show, until it's over so I can binge watch it. If for no other reason than that's the way I prefer to watch shows these days.

I think they made Jimmy so obvious about watching that dude, on purpose. These writers don't make mistakes like that, without a purpose.

Any other good series you guys recommend binge watching? I just watched all the Ray Donovan's. Liked it up until he almost single handedly took out the entire Russian mafia.

Yeah genius, the most Breaking Bad thing in the show so far.

The way it all came together with the same doctor providing the meth who later on patches up Mike in BB, that big extended shot showing the super strict DEA checks in episode 8 of the last season so we know they are fucked.

It took me a day to get that that the start was a flash forward to when Fring has taken over and it's the same pair of shoes years later...

The Jimmy plotline is fine but I have to say that the Mike stuff is cooler at the moment.

Oh and any last doubts as to the total cuntiness of Chuck are gone.

Somehow Chuck's actions get Kim put in jail pushing Jimmy to become Saul.

Ernesto is related to Fring. Fring kills Chuck.

The Cinnabon place is close to where Kim said she is from, it ends with a black and white scene where they meet could be happy or sad.
Ok well #1 looks sound, it's also possible that the Chuck cuntiness extends to fucking over Kim too. The montage of her sleeping at the office was maybe to show that she is already working at 100% so having to take on Jimmy's case too will push her over the edge.

She should maybe take on some help like young Ernesto as there must be money coming in?

If Jimmy ends up being disbarred because of the legal troubles Chuck got him into, that could be reason enough to open another law practice under a different name. He might have to forge some documents so they say "Saul Goodman" instead of "James McGill". Or else hope nobody ever checks (like Mike Ross on "Suits")

Yeah it was one of the best ones.

I expect we're going to now get a bunch of Mike, Gus and Tuco stuff which should be cool too.

When they showed the bus bench in the opening credits, I was thinking that might be an indication that Jimmy was going to lose, be disbarred, and this would be the beginning of him creating the "Saul" identity. Obviously it turned out pretty much the opposite. Well played, Jimmy.

Really enjoying this season. Lots of BB characters showing up. Nacho is an interesting character. Doesn't he end up on Gus' side of things? I assume Hectors health goes south { ding.ding} and Nacho ends up on Gus' side. Perhaps he adds a little something to that pill Hector dropped and puts it back in a bottle?Had forgotten about the Lydia character. Cool to see the beginnings of the meth lab. How long til they write off Kim? Great show.

So Jimmy didn't really win in court after all? I'm not sure how they could have sided with Chuck after his meltdown on the stand. And as I called it last week, we have now seen the debut of Saul Goodman... though not exactly the way I expected. Probably we will see Hector go down by the end of the season, I'm guessing from a massive stroke, knowing how he ends up in a wheelchair with only that damned bell as a way to communicate. Whether that stroke is induced by Nacho spiking his heart medication is entirely possible, of course.

Jimmy only being disbarred for 1 year was the best result they could hope for which is why he and Kim were celebrating.

The only mention of Nacho in Breaking bad was when Walt and Jesse , Saul (mistakenly thinking that people sent by a person named Lalo are holding him at gunpoint) says "it wasn't me, it was Ignacio."

    Nacho is short for Ignacio.

You may be thinking of Victor who Mike saw driving away from Frings restaurant. He's the guy who gets his throat cut by Gus to make a point. It's easy to forget sometimes just how ruthless Gus can be.

So then it looks like the game plan here is for him to be an advertising salesman for a year, to pay the bills and keep the law firm running for Kim's sake. Then when his suspension is over, he will return to law practice, but he would presumably be keeping the Saul Goodman name. Might this be because Chuck is clearly in the middle of a major mental break, which will probably damage the ability of ANYBODY named McGill to be taken seriously as a lawyer?

I don't know if I missed a few minutes of the episode or what, but did they show where exactly it was that Chuck was heading for when he was walking around the streets in his space blanket hoodie, tripping out on the neon lights..... or do they just fast forward to him being in either a morgue or padded cell next week, without showing how he got there?

Jimmy's trick with the battery has made Chuck realize on some level that his condition must be psychosomatic so he decides to try and get over it.

First by holding a battery and then by walking down streets surrounded by electric lights. Having got to that stage he then called the psychiatric doctor who had previously been treating him back when he was hospitalized a while back.

I assume that his need for revenge is also giving him strength.

I get the feeling after last nights show that Kim is getting weary of Jimmy's underhanded ways..She is sympathetic for Chuck..This spells the end for her somehow? She packs up and goes instead of dying?

Yeah, Kim seems to be feeling a bit guilty. She likes Chuck, despite what HH&M did to her, and doesn't like the way this went down. If she finds out what Jimmy did at the malpractice insurance agency, she's gonna like that even less. This might well cause her to leave town, and will be another piece in the puzzle that results in Jimmy resuming his law career under the Saul Goodman name.

If Nacho ends up working for Gus, it might be because Gus will agree to leave Nacho's family out of the business. As opposed to Hector who is trying to force Nacho's father into using his business as a front for the drug operations, which is why Nacho is planning to spike Hector's heart meds (and probably reduce him to the bell-ringing quadriplegic mute)

Jeez, I hope not, enjoyed the first season....
Started watching Six feet Under, and re-watching Curb Your Enthusiasm again for the first time since watching it, forgot how much that show made me laugh....Except for that season with the Seinfeld storyline, that was crap if I remember right....
Game Of Thrones should be good....

Damn, Jimmy did a number on Irene. First real moment of realizing how big a shitbag he can be. Granted all those old folks need their cash but he really went low for his share..

Well, this season ended pretty much as I suspected it would. With Hector presumably having his big stroke (or whatever it was) that turns him into a quadraplegic with a bell fetish. And Chuck seemingly taking himself out - though fire was not the method I thought he would use... I actually thought he would electrocute himself accidentally when he was knocking holes in all of his walls.

So is Kim gone now too? Is this when she moves back to Nebraska (guessing that's where she went so they can eventually "flash forward" to her and Jimmy meeting up in the present in the last episode of the series)

It's funny that Gus saved Hector again with CPR after saving him from Mike earlier. He has to stop people from killing Hector because they aren't doing it right.

What I don't get at the moment is that if Gus wants to kill Hector in a horrible way how come he doesn't manage it over the next few years before Breaking Bad.

Maybe he thinks the wheelchair/bell situation is worse punishment for Hector than killing him.

Did anyone notice the lantern in the intro flashback is the same one that Chuck kills himself with?

Maybe he thinks the wheelchair/bell situation is worse punishment for Hector than killing him.

Did anyone notice the lantern in the intro flashback is the same one that Chuck kills himself with?
I think it goes back to Hector making Gus look at his first dead chemist bleeding into the pool..Gus always wanted Hector to look at him when he killed him..Realize it was Gus that killed him. Im guessing after the stroke Gus wont see him much? He was hiding away with Tuco in BB..
I didnt think much of the lantern bit at the beginning tying into Chucks " demise"..great writing again to tie it all together.
Also just realized, I think the receptionist hired by Jimmy is the same person that plays her in BB.

Yes it's the same woman - Francesca.

She is also just about the only person to beat Walt extorting $20k from him for info on how to contact Saul in Season 4.

I'm definitely going to do a rewatch of BB at some point - that was a hell of an episode as I remember.

    New season started well.

Word on the street some more BB characters are coming back including maybe Hank? Also this season is going to be darker I guess because of a drugs war.

They also got season 5 approved - no news on whether that's the final one.

    Episode 3

I missed the fact the guy Jimmy hires to do the burglary is Ira from Breaking Bad.

He was the boss of Vamonos Pest who would put tents around four houses every week in the Albuquerque area. The five-man crew of exterminators, which Ira leads, bolster their income by burglarizing the houses they fumigate. Saul Goodman was a lawyer for many of Vamonos' crooks.

More obscure catch was the guy sleeping at the office ordering the pizza making a big thing about it being sliced.

This is an old Breaking Bad trope from when Walter throws the pizza on the roof.

In the second episode of the third season of Breaking Bad, Walter White arrives home with a pizza for the family. Unfortunately, Skyler—who just found out her husband makes meth—answers the door and won't let him in. Walt walks to the driveway and throws the entire pizza on the roof. It's a weird move on its own, but the pizza itself is bizarre, too. It's unsliced. Who sells an unsliced pizza? It's a topic that's been of some internet debate since the episode aired in 2010.

n an entirely different scene, Jesse is having a party and orders a pizza, which arrives unsliced. Badger explains to his confused friends that "they don't cut the pizza, and they pass the savings on to you."

These are two scenes that just feel like unique Breaking Bad quirks. But as we've come to learn from repeated viewings and analysis, nothing is a coincidence on Breaking Bad.

During creator Vince Gilligan's Reddit AMA , one fan asked, "Was Badger and Skinny Pete's conversation at Jesse's party about the pizzas not being sliced written in after the fact to explain how Walters pizza landed on the roof intact? Everyone knows a sliced pizza would have come apart."

As creator Vince Gilligan says of the unsliced pizza, it had to do with continuity and physics:

'Yes! We had a long discussion before we shot the pizza on the roof scene about whether or not the pizza should be sliced—because, as all you physicists know, a thrown, sliced pizza would come apart due to centrifugal force or angular momentum (or something like that). And yet, you're right: no self-respecting pizza parlor sells an unsliced pizza. So we figured we needed to explain it (in the "They pass the savings on to you" scene), or else face our audience's righteous wrath!'

Breaking Bad Star Talks Last Night's Better Call Saul Cameo — Could He Return for More Episodes?
By Dave Nemetz / August 21 2018, 5:00 AM PDT

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Monday’s Better Call Saul, so if you haven’t watched yet, you know… tread lightly.

Well, that cameo was a bit of TV gold, wasn’t it? (Or maybe TV titanium, or TV magnesium…)

Better Call Saul Season 4 Episode 3 Gus GaleThis week’s Better Call Saul dropped one of its most delightful Breaking Bad Easter eggs yet, as Gus Fring visited a local university to consult chemist (and future meth cook) Gale Boetticher. True to dorky form, Gale was singing a song naming the periodic table of elements when Gus arrived, and informed Gus that his current meth suppliers were pushing inferior product. “I could do much better,” he added, volunteering his services, but Gus turned him down: “You were meant for better things.” Of course, we know we’ll soon see Gale whipping up meth in Gus’ Superlab… and working with Heisenberg himself, Walter White.

Gale’s return was actually years in the making, according to David Costabile, who reprised his Breaking Bad role in last night’s episode. He had breakfast with Saul executive producer Peter Gould in Albuquerque back when Saul was still shooting its first season, “and he was like, ‘We should have you back on the show,'” he tells TVLine. “I thought he was just being nice,” he adds with a laugh. “‘You were on that other show that was such a big hit for us, and we shot you in the face, so you might as well come on back and be alive!'”

Costabile sees Gale’s appearance here as “a launching pad” for the character’s arc on Breaking Bad, since it highlights “his interest and pursuit of excellence, and the rigor that it demands of one’s self to get to excellence… He delights in how difficult chemistry is, because it has to be done the right way, or it’s not going to succeed.” The “shoddy craftsmanship” from the other meth cooks offends Gale’s sensibilities, he says: “He’s like, ‘That’s not OK. You can’t go through life like that. You just mustn’t. You mustn’t allow yourself to not do your best.’ And I think that’s who that character is.”

So could we see more of Gale and his impossibly high standards in future episodes of Saul? (After all, we haven’t seen the Superlab up and running yet.) Costabile is tight-lipped: “Are you kidding me? Those AMC thugs will come and get me, trust me.” (He doesn’t want to get shot in the face again, understandably.) But he does leave the door open for an encore performance as Gale: “It will remain to be seen how the story develops… and how it would or could collide with those other stories.”

The real question, though: How much time was Costabile given to memorize the lyrics to “The Elements,” that catchy laundry list of elements Gale was happily singing? “Not long enough!” he laughs: “I spent every single waking moment from the second they told me that that was going to be the f–king song, until the f–king moment that we shot it.” He wanted to make sure it seeemed “offhand,” too, since Gale obviously knows the song well, and “the only way that can be is if you’ve sung it a million times.” As a result, he can now sing the song “at any speed: slow, fast, stick a pencil in my eye… I can sing that song. I am ready.”
