My dad never retired. He sold off his construction businesses but retained a lot of his real estate businesses. The only thing is when he did pass away, my mom had all these business affairs to deal with and we had all moved away and she knew nothing about running businesses. When you have an old lady over her head the sharks come in. My dad thrived on it, my mom hated it. Plus you just don't liquidate those kind of assets over night. It gave my brother and me some extra bullshit to deal with. Anyways, it would have been nice if he had all liquid assets and an accountant could just deal with it. When you have employees and physical assets in multiple states it puts the old widow in a bad situation if you to suddenly kick it. She becomes the manager. She could have handled it if she was younger but her mind was no longer sharp and she had her own health problems. She was angry my dad just didn't let it all go but he never did do anything but run businesses. It's what he did.

She just ended up giving a lot of it to charity. She didn't need the money but god was it a pain in the butt for her.

Don't ask me how or why I know this (I swear I read it on Yahoo!) but that's how Steve Perry ended up - and I don't think it's a stretch to say Ed is too far behind. Perry can't release anything or work with any band members because nothing is ever good enough. He has perfectionism so chronic that he even doubts himself working alone. Sounds crazy, but look at EVH. Perry only makes music that he can listen to nowadays, and he still finds fault with it. How Ed managed to release ADKOT is a miracle. It probably only took a month or more to record - and years to convince him that it was good enough to release. The follow-up to that record will probably be the same thing. Hell, it's probably already DONE.

Edit: Here's where I read it. And no - I don't own any Journey albums.

Dave is now pulling back the curtain on the Wizard of Oz.

Who wants to see that? I want the lights and big head , loud voice, and Fire/smoke. Don't show me the old guy behind the curtain.

I'm going Rip Van Winkle until the New VH album.

I would agree in the sense that it would be nice if these topics were even remotely close to the early days of VH or his solo career....

Was just hoping to hear something a little VH related instead of this crap again. You know, you don't have to be fascinated by everything this guy does. I bet you laugh each time he does, because ya know....if it's funny to Dave it's funny to you.

I wont deny more tails of the Early VH days would go down well , but I also dont deny as a fan I dont mind him posting this stuff . I get to listen to it in the back ground or not .
As I say I think its cool an artist gives his fans this sort of stuff but people dont have to watch if its not their cup of tea.

The same thought occurred to me. Dancing around the empty hallways and rooms with no one to keep you company but your dog; talking to a camera just to hear yourself talk. It all seems very lonely. Was the BBQ the last time Dave threw a party there?

I thought he was involved with that youngish Japanese woman he was photographed with last year? Was it around the time of the run up to Australian gig he announced in some interview that he was in love?

If he is lonely he should forget the The Roth Show and instead hire an archivist to help him make preparations to mark these anniversaries, and - e.g. - buy up stuff like that Fresno footage.

If you're reading this, Dave ... I'll do it! I have experience.

Comparing live vs. the studio, he tries to make it seem the albums were all live first or second takes. I have a feeling the vocals probably took more than a few attempts.
He is also waxing nostalgic to the point that you can feel how much he misses the good old days.

True enough, but I think he realizes his good old days were cut short by his quitting and what he did solo paled in the shadow of VH. Couple that with how age and a strong missing link means there's nothing mighty about them so much anymore. Open the vaults is the nightly cry, much more fun to see who they were, not who they are trying to be.

You're a selective reader. I see lot's of people in here hoping for more new music and tours. Most of these folks, present party included, want to see and hear some old stuff, too. Somehow, that makes us tragically unhip in your eyes. So much that you can't break away from us. I gotta tell ya, that's pretty sad.

Dave reminds me of my older brother. My brother passed away from a heart attack but he was the same age as Dave. He did well for himself and lived alone. He was a bachelor who never married. He had what seemed to be decent women interested in tying the knot but he just wouldn't. The lack of commitment eventually would make them bolt.

He was married to his job. We used to talk every Sunday. He loved talking to our kids. He started to show more interest in family and the things we did growing up. I knew what the problem was. He was lonely. He wanted something solid and lasting. I had it he didn't so he was trying to borrow some of what I had. I felt like saying, stop being so picky, find a nice woman, marry her and build a home.

I see it in Dave. You can see Dave is reflecting on his childhood and actually trying to relive it a bit. Nothing wrong with that. But man. Dave needs to find the right women and just build the next stage of his life. It's a big lonely house and Dave is acting like a little kid who hasn't grown up yet. Frankly it's a bit scary.

New music? Fine...it will be heralded as the best they've ever recorded by the regulars here, absolutely burying anything done with Cherone or Hagar. Another tour? Fine....unless they get Mike (maybe someday Dave will let you call him by his name again) back I don't think the vocals will have improved from the last jaunt and general interest will perhaps fade some.

Roth loves performing, being on the stage, so much so that you have to wonder if he does much more than plan his next webisode. Kinda like the person at a party or concert or whatever who spends more time twittering or facebooking about what an awesome time he's having than actually living the experience.

That actually sounds a bit more like you. Dave's reminisces and all you can do is put you're own life on hold just long enough to bag on him and the people who just so happen to be listening to him. Yay you.

    Wow man. That's deep.

Like, being the singer of classic van halen and an emt and a seasoned mountain climber ain't enough. Yeah, he's a bit of a layabout.

I doubt anyone here would declare new music from this band, better than the original 6 pack.

But yes, it will absolutely bury anything done with Clichegar or Cherbone. How could it not?
