Just Saw Dave at Ribfest in St Pete Fla!

I see everything everyone here says about Dave...Now here is My take!
Dave has No Reason to ever reunite with the other Members of V.H.
His Band Kicked total ass to a crowd of around 17,000 people tonight.
Brian Young is every bit as good as Ed WAS!... in his playing days, and Tosho Ripped ass Too! The Bass player was excellent , and the back up vocal harmonys were perfect!!!
Now about Dave! Dave over all kicked ass too!!! He had a few notes that were not perfect ( But Who Fucking Cares)!!!! He was A total showman , and he had a Major Following there tonight. It was the best concert I have seen in years , and the only reason to rejoin V.H would be to write some new material tour 1 year , and then go back to his current line up. which Hands Down blow What ever the V.H brothers can scrape together right out of the water!!!

Ya YA YA Fuck all You Hagar Fags!!!!!

Always great to read a good review. Glad you had a great time.

Haven't seen him for a year. Sadly, every time I see him live, I know it could be the last.

Anytime I read a review that beings by saying that DLR's no-name band members are better than Van Halen, I tune out immediately.

they talk about the current state of the VH-members...and if you see the vid where ed fucks up panama (losing the neck of his guitar and so on) it makes you wonder if any EVH-cover guitar player is better right now...

Just got back from the HArd Rock Orlando show...lemme tell ya...Dave doesn't need the sisters and bassplayer.

His band right now is the tightest that I've ever seen...including Vai and Sheehan! If he doesn't take them into a studio and record SOMETHING then it would be a HUGE loss.

Their version of "Unchained" fuckin' brought the house DOWN!

"Panama" was awesome too...at the end of "She's blinding, I'm flying
Right behind the rear-view mirror now
    Got the feeling, power steering
Pistons popping, ain't no stopping now" they held the note ala Queenesque and resumed playing...I really dug it.

I was bummed out at not seeing the Ribfest show but glad I saw them indoors...the venue was perfect as the "heavy artillary" as Dave put it made your body shake.

The bassist was freaking GREAT! His fills were right on the money and he added to what bassplayer could never do with a guitar...not only that but when he sang he nailed it perfectly! He gave Dave the room to be...DAVE!

The crowd was into it and they were very appreciative to what we were throwing back.

Dave interacted with the crowd as only Dave could...he singled out this one girl in the crowd that was about 5 people to the right of where I was standing...he used some lines I'd heard him say before..."Is she your date?...do you mind if I fuck her?"and "She's so sweet she must shit sugar" but used one I hadn't heard him use before..."I've been coming to Florida for about 21 years now...and you look like you're about 21...where's your mom?"

I had an awesome time and if he tours again...I'm there. Until then I can say that this was by far THE best I've seen Dave perform in a very LONG time. The kicks, the samauri twirls, the screams, the whole schtick...makes me glad I'm a fan and that he STILL gives it back to his fans!

Ahhhhh .. someone is paying attention ... I added a some yesterday ... I guess you are just keeping up with me. I noted that to make sure everyone saw them all. I have some more but these are about the best. The wind was blowing the smoke and that reeked havoc on my focus. I have pictures from several years here and there! Have met DAVE twice and the band who know how many times. Met SARGE in person too way back! I will post my 2005 pictures, and possible some others, to the ARMY pictures book this afternoon! !! !!!DT

    18,000?

    Maybe 5-6K.

Still, whatever the number, they were all there to see Dave.

Last time I saw Dave was 4-5 years ago in St. Pete. Back then, he was great. He may have acted like a fool, but his voice was great. That's all I really care about when I go to a show.

On Friday, night, Dave toned down his act a little but his voice was not as good. I don't expect him to sound great as the years take their toll. But on many songs, he didn't even try to hit the notes. He would speak them instead of sing them. And other times, he just wouldn't sing at all. And still, on others, he sang them completely different than he did on the original recordings.

It sounded like he was back in Vegas and singing like a senior citizen.
But not on all songs. Some sounded great.

Overall, it was worth the $10. But I think this is Dave's last hurrah.

Back-up band's backing vocals were great. But comparing their musical skilss to the original VH line-up or even to Vai and Sheehan, is ridiculous.

Also, I just saw the videos on Dave's site. The way he sang at the "Pops" show is kind of how he sang some of the songs in St. Pete.

Man I am oblivious to the vocals! I didn't notice any of that. I wasn't in a good state of mind to analyze very much.

Maybe that 17000 was the income of the ticket sales?

Didn't really look back once the show started to get an estimate, but just with the size of the park itself, and eyeballing the amount of people leaving once the show ended, I'd put it at about 3,000. That might be a little conservative...maybe it was a couple thousand more...

I'd be really surprised to hear that it was even close to 10,000, much less almost 20,000.

No point in inflating the crowd size, anyway. Not gonna give the show any more legitimacy or make it any better than it was. It was a good show and a great time, regardless of how many showed up.

Yep it's sometimes a bad thing to see a show twice in a row. Same DAVE dif' day?! I would have to say tho' it ends up being a good thing after the day is done! The show in St. Pete was mentioned to hold 15-20K and I'd say it was near capacity! Don't quote me on this! the area was about two hundred yard deep and about 75 yards wide and was pretty packed but not over crowded! They had what I've dubbed the "MISSISSIPPI SOUND SYSTEM"! they could probably hear the concert across the gulf! About fifty yard back on the 200 yard concert ground they had another wall of speakers! That's right ... stacks of speakers partway back into the crowd. They had a smaller stage set up at that end ... LOL.. poor NON-POINT ... I imagine they couldn't hear themselves think on that stage thanks to "MISSISSIPPI SOUND" Always grab the opprtunity to see an outdoor concert!
St. Pete was hands down more of a rock n' roll free for all ... especially with plenty of porto' POTty rooms. They put the ample outhouses right by the BBQ SMOKERS so it was pretty much a smokers paradise! There were real palm trees growing out of the ground within' fifty feet of the stage so ... you know how DAVE feels about palm trees! Tropical breeze filled with BBQ smoke plenty o' fans ... JUST LIKE PARADISE! !! !!!DT
