ZZ Top's Rancho Texicano: Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?

I bought it and was really happy to see that they included Velcro Fly, Stages, Waitin' For The Bus, Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers and I Thank You, which weren't on the first Greatest Hits. Still, they were missing Planet of Women, Party On The Patio and of course one of my favourite ZZ Top classics, TV Dinners. Your thoughts on this double CD?

Yup. I fucking love 'em, but how many fucking greatest hits CDs does a goddamn band need?

I picked up the "six-pack" when it came out, 'cause CD's were all the rage back then.

More and more each day, I'm loving the LP's.

Let me tell you, "Master of Sparks" sounds really good through a decent turntable and pricey speakers.

Well, I like it a lot better than "Greatest hits".

It is a bummer that "Planet of women" didn`t make it, though.

The change in their sound over the years is quite startling.

Well worth the $, only 30 bucks at Columbia House.

              Fucking right it does! YES!

All the old ZZ albums sound fucking incredible on vinyl, for sure, especially Tres Hombres.

It's funny, I've been a massive ZZ fan since the age of 9, but as a kid I had all the ZZ albums on cassette (with the exception of a vinyl Eliminator, first album I ever bought, actually), so cassettes were my main point of reference all my life for ZZ, sonically.

Picked up Six Pack as an adult and listened to that for a while; even though the tracks were controversially altered, I could still dig the tunes.

Fucking bought my first ZZ album on vinyl a couple of years ago, and it was like I'd never actually heard the goddamn albums before, and really, I hadn't. I couldn't believe how fucking sweet they sounded. The difference is astounding.

Now I don't listen to 'em any other way.

I love those guys as well.

I saw 'em open the "Eliminator" tour in Savannah, GA way back when....seen 'em several times since, that one sticks out as the best.

I've replaced everything but "Rio Grande Mud" on vinyl...I had a few from years ago, but they were pretty dicey.

"Tejas" is the current fave..."Diablo", "Snappy Kakkie", "Enjoy and get it on"......"Ten Dollar Man" is one bad-ass fucking song.

That LP will have ya sittin' in front of the speakers like the dude in the old Memorex ads.......

"Don't ya know it happens every day-ayyyyy"....
