    Charlotte & Greensboro

We're 6 guys travelling in from Sweden for the first two shows.

Any plans on a get together before or after the shows?

Any locals to guide us in choice of hotel, tips on bars, clubs etc??

We want central location close to bars and clubs...

Go the tickets - better seats in Greensboro, but happy to have them for both shows.

I would love to help you Sweden. I live right between both locations. I will look up hotels, etc.... meet you at the airport, whatever I can do for an international contingency of Van Halen fans coming to my area.

I know Greensboro much better than Charlotte but someone from Charlotte will join the thread soon.

First thing you should understand is that Charlotte and Greensboro are about 100 miles apart. Will you need hotels in each city or will you rent a van and travel by Interstate?

O.K. here's a start...I plan on doing some more research and maybe starting a thread because I promised someone else I would do this today, anyway....

This is probably the nicest, high dollar hotel near the Greensboro Coliseum (w/i 1 mile).

It's not a 5 star European hotel but its nice and it may be a bit expensive.

On the other hand, the cost of living in North Carolina is way lower than the Country on average, and certainly lower than anywhere in Sweden :D - so it may seem like the deal of the century to you!

...and, again, I plan to look up and post more reasonably priced alternatives in the near future.

I live less than a mile from Bobcats arena in Downtown Charlotte (they call it Uptown Charlotte). I recommend staying at the Holiday Inn in Uptown Charlotte. It's walking distance to Bobcats Arena and there are a bunch of bars around it.

Places to party in Downtown Charlotte: Cans, Dixie's Tavern, Cosmos, Connelly's, Rea Rah...

Uptown Charlotte is a bit snobby. I'm not sure if they can handle hordes of VH fans.

Here's a link to the Holiday Inn. It's walking distance to the Arena, and also near the arena parking lots where I am sure there will be many tail gators.

This Hotel is in the same neighborhood as the Holiday Inn, in the center of the action. It's a nice place in a historic Building

Here's a cheap one that will probably run about $40.00 a night. Its no frills and there may be someone sketchy in the room down the hall, if you're worried about that type of thing. Most likely there will be lots of people in town for the concert staying at this hotel.

Greensboro, NC about 1 mile down the street from the show. Straight shot, no turns...'till you're at the gate.

The Red Roof Inn has comfortable beds.

I may have mis-spoke. Wilmington by the bay has always been amazingly beautiful, especially during the azaelia festival, and dt Ashville is nice as well.

Greensboro NC, 1 mile to the show, no turns.

Higher scale than Red Roof, on par with ParkLane:

Hi guys. You make me misty, thanks for the help. I'll check out all your links and suggestions.

We haven't decided on going back to Charlotte after Greensboro or staying in town, we'll drive between the cities for sure though. Our flight arrives in Charlotte on the 26th and we're flyin out on the 30th.

Let's see if we can meet up for the show(s)!

I'll monitor this thread so please send more tips if you think of any.

Or feel free to drop me an e-mail.

                      Thanks again!

Hyman or Bluestreak, do you know what section the Flying Saucer Beer Emporium is in? I have a room reserved near it, but I may cancel and move to the one near the arena if it's too far away. Hopefully it's near that area where all the bars are you described.

Copied my response from another thread:

There are some hotels I believe by the mall off of High Point Rd. Go from the arena in GSO toward the Hooters down the road, then keep going 1/2 mile and you'll be at the hotels. Also, there may be some cheaper ones on Wendover. From the arena parking lot, just cross over High Point Rd/ Lee St. and continue down Patterson. You will be forced to get onto I-40. Then take the next exit, about a mile away. That's Wendover and it has all kinds of hotels/motels, IHOPs, chain restaurants, and all the typical urban sprawl bullshit, but some clean, affordable rooms at least.

I'd love to throw a pre concert party at my condo, but my girlfriend is going to be 8 and 1/2 months pregnant at that time and not wanting a bunch of drunk VH fans hanging around. She's a trooper though...she's going to the concert with me. I warned her that hearing the opening riff of Unchained live could put her into labor.

I'll try to listen to the local radio and see if there are any pre or post concert parties planned. I imagine Dixie's Tavern will probably have something. They are the most hard rock of all the bars in Uptown Charlotte.

If you stay in a Downtown Charlotte Hotel everything is within walking distance, and there shouldn't be any worries about drunk driving.

Here's some photos of Charlotte for all you tourists: http://www.pbase.com/skysaddle/aroun...north_carolina It's not a big city. I have no idea why Van Halen picked it as their first stop. I am totally stoked because I live so close -- amazing luck. Bobcats Arena is pretty nice. It is brand new, just opened last year.
