in my oppinion, two of shemps finest moments...........the drum solo in light up the sky is classic.......sounds really good.....i love when he brings the toms into the beat he's playing..........however, to me hot for teacher is one of the greatest drumming performances of all time......can someone tell me how he made double bass drums sound like a god damn motor cycle........insane!!!!!

Yeah it is a crazy thing that damn intro. I heard that he possibly used some trigger pedals, which is like, if you hit one of the bass pedals, another one will automatically hit in a certain amount of time, but i think that is wrong. Only Alex knows the real way -
I think i prefer Light Up The Sky more since i listen to that one more, but hell that intro for hot for teacher is crazyComment

drums in Showtime remind me of drums in HFT.
Between the two you mentioned here, I'd go with HFT.“Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding” ― Betty WhiteComment

anybody know if that fast drumming thing he allways does in his live solo(turns into a humming noise)is for real?the strobe light is allways flashing when he does it,so you cant really make out the speed of his hands!....top drummer though i reckon!Comment

The "motorcycle" part of HFT involves no tricks. It's just him playing on a tom. A drum teacher I know said it's possibly a gong drum (big ass drum). Either way, he is actually playing it. I did analyse it with said drum teacher once, and we figured out where the overdub was. He also went to a Gregg Bissonette clinic (he's a big fan), and he told a story of Alex explaining to him how he did it. It's just clever drumming.
Of the two, HFT is better, I think. Outta Love Again is another awesome Alex groove.Waylon Jennings: 1937-2002. RIP, Hoss!Comment

Light up the sky.....brings back special memories for me.
Even as a female of 14, I knew there was talented musicians in that song...and that was BEFORE I knew that they were legends."If our country is worth dying for in time of war let us resolve that it is truly worth living for in time of peace." - Hamilton FishComment
