...and attendance does not equal tickets sold as they comp thousands on a nightly basis.

Pathetic, no matter how anyone tries to spin it.

Oh my god that's pathetic. The only thing that they can take out of that is the fact they know Sammy ate more for dinner then everyone at one of their gigs put together.

I don't know much about the radio competition and stuff, how many tickets per gig usually are given away and won in competitions.

:bananna:  :monekyr: My thought is those fuckers must've paid the local paper here to quote the crowd as "8,000-plus fans in attendance"! Phillips Arena can hold more than that! 14,330?

Fuck, maybe I was looking at their Hawks' games capacity (20,000). Hell, those motherfuckers can't fill up the joint, either!

Van Halen Stops in Lubbock

NewsChannel 11 tried real hard to coordinate an interview with Van Halen band members but as you can imagine the band is pretty unaccessible. So instead, we talked to a couple of the people who are just as important in putting this show on. Meredith Craig, the United Spirit Arena Event Coordinator says, "I get here at 7:30, 8am. We'll start extremely early for 7, 8 o'clock show. Crews come at 7:30 a.m. to get the stage set up and all of that, so one of things I do is set up dressing rooms and production offices."

Craig has her hands full. With Van Halen, their crew, and their entourage in town, it's her job to take care of the details and make the group feel at home. It's Craig's job to worry about everything from furniture to drapes for the walls and she takes care of all the band's last minute requests. In the end, she gets to meet some pretty famous faces and she says they're always very cordial and very cooperative.

John Hicks, Van Halen's Video Crew Chief says, "They're pretty good guys. Sammy is a lot of fun. Ed's a lot of fun. I went out partying with Ed in New Orleans. I was supposed to take care of Ed. He wound up taking care of me!"

Hicks spent Wednesday, unpacking and setting up video equipment. Six cameras and miles of cable will make the stars of the show larger than life. But the guys don't forget about their crew. Hicks says, "We carry our own catering company with us and they do good. And it's fun, a gypsy lifestyle, running from ex-wives and things." John's been around the world three times running from those exes, which must make for some pretty wild stories! When we ask him about them, he laughs when he says "I can't tell you those. I'd have to kill ya!"

Attendance was 5494 in Little Rock, Ar on the 24th... Don't know what the capacity of Alltel arena is but the nose bleed sections were closed and curtained off. Visually the bowl and floor were about 75-80% full.

That is hilarious.

But, seriously...

Opening night in Greensboro had 2,000 comps spread around.

You can allow for between 1,000-2,000 depending on market size and how poorly the advance was.

Assuming the numbers are correct then the promoters for the Atlanta & Moline shows would have definitely LOST money doing business with VHagar. The other 2 probably either barely recouped or made a very small profit. There have been numerous shows on this tour with sub-par attendances where the promoters took a bath. No wonder there are rumors of a split between Eddie/Alex & Hagar/Anthony. After the predictions of "rapid fire sellouts" by Hagar even he looks like an idiot to those in the VH camp. I looked at Billboard again this week and out of the more than 30 SHOWS listed VHagar was nowhere to be found. For a "reunion" tour this thing has been a failure. PERIOD.

And, they promoted the Atlanta show relentlessly for months. The 10th largest market in the nation, and paid was what, 6,000 as a fair estimate.

Greenville had sold about 4,000 before it was cancelled. They cancelled Charlotte, and Columbia... opening night in Greensboro drew pitiful numbers, just over 7,000.

Safe to say the southeast has not treated them well, not at all.

 :D Ain't that the truth? I couldn't escape the drivel of Southside and Rhodes (afternoon djs for 96Rock) singing the praises of Van Hagar! On the day of the show (Sept. 17), they were giving away VIP packages in the parking lot of Phillips Arena! They even gave this homeless dude a ticket!

If you average each ticket sold at $80 which according to http://www.canoe.ca/JamMusic/top20concerts-ap.html is correct you get these numbers.

Atlanta Ga.
Date Sept. 17, 2004
Attendance 7,572 = $605,760
Capacity 14,330

Moline, Ill.
Date Sept. 20, 2004
Attendance 6,440 = $515,200
Capacity 10,818

Hato Rey, P.R.
Date Sept. 13, 2004
Attendance 10,933 = $874,640
Capacity 14,935

Washington, D.C.
June 25, 2004
Attendance 10,933 = $874,640
Capacity 15,000

That's $2,870,240 for 4 concerts. Not Bad!

You......are an idiot!!!!

Subtract how much the promoter has guaranteed the band for each night, and 100,000 more for expenses, and you might see our point
when you see how much is/isn't left for the promoter!!!!!!

Yeah............ except for the fact that those are not PAID attendance figures and they are having to resort to offering heavy DISCOUNTS in virtually every market just to move the utterly lackluster numbers they are. Oh, and gosh darn it, we have to factor in EXPENSES too...

But, yeah, except for you missing those three little "minor" things in your fuzzy math, sure, "not bad".

Anyway, a good try for you little Patrick! Someday, if you study real hard, maybe you will understand the big blue marble and the wonderous world all around us...

Except the band is guaranteed $750,000 per show.

Add another $100,000 for various expenses and the promoter

is out $529,760 for 4 shows.

Still think it's not bad????

Just so you understand what the above post means....if the promoters are losing that much money, you can bet your ass you won't be seeing another Van Failn tour. That is unless DLR reunites with them, and Sammy stays home. The only other way they will be on tour is if they play smaller venues, lower the guarantee (if they can still get a guarantee) and leave some of the crew home.

"Hato Rey, P.R.

Sorry for the correction but the PR coliseum holds for musical concerts/shows a maximum of 19,795 seats, for other type of activities, 25,500 seats. The attendance for the "van hagar" show
was 17,300 + and not 10,933.

I live here in San Juan and I'm a UPS driver who just deliver in the zone of that veneu and saw the real numbers on the day after...

Just a correction of the facts ,nothing on my preference of DLR over SH.
