Red Rocker, like I said before more like Cock Knocker. A fat bastard that is trying to promote his own bar and a shampoo product. Its one thing to be into yourself but don't you think Sammy is taking it a little too far? What does he have that makes him so egotistic? However this may appear as a biased opinion but I personally dont like Spammy. I wish he would Drive 55 right off a fucking cliff.
For those that appreciate the Red Rocker... Feel free to post your thoughts but beware of the backlash you may receive.
DLR fucking rules.
Saw him open up for ZZ Top in '83. I didn't like him before; liked him less after the show. Most people didn't bother to show up to the sold out show until ZZ Top went on. Of course in an interview about the Sam & Dave tour he said he hadn't opened up for anyone since '78.

Sammy is ok as a solo artist. I never really liked him as the "Red Rocker" and never really cared for I cant drive 55 or eagles fly. But that said I think he was a perfect choice for VH.
He sucks, and Al really likes that.

Ok...here it comes: I don't really have that much of a problem with Sam.
Now I can feel all of the gun sights being focused at my head, and can hear the Howitzers being primed, yet hear me out.
I have no problem with Hagar getting a job, that pays him ok. It's called free enterprise, or to a more acurrate term, capitalism.
This guy complained that he actually took a pay-cut to join VH (believe what you will believe).
In exchange for this apparent pay-cut, his face reached the entire
world.
Outrightly dismissing what the band turned into...what really gets my nut about Sam is truly not his fault: It's his fucking fans!!!
Look at that thing beneath my avatar...it includes my age. Yup, 43...and I constantly have to listen to someone tell me how much better Sammy is than Dave Roth, and say it with the same conviction a child has as looking out the window Christmas Eve, waiting for Santa.
I'd like to explain how "Rockem-Sockem Robots" are better than a video game, why "Hot Wheels are great because you don't have car payments, and how if you get into a bar fight, you will feel pain, if not actually bleed a bit.
All I'm saying is get some world experience, before you start telling me the lay of the land.

Well in my eyes Sammy is a very true and generous human being, although a lot of you hate him for being part of Van Halen there are two sides to every story.
Sam does so much Charity work and donates tonnes, i have done work with a lot of people and at one event Sammy donated all proceeds from a show to the cause, wow a lot of cashola but i am just person and that is how i feel.
We really dont know much about the OTHER side of Roth , that would be cool to get an inside view on what makes Diamond Dave tick.
Can you guys arrange this at Roth Army?

I like Sammy, I think he's got a good voice and is a half way decent song writer. I like Van Hagar, it's the form of Van Halen that I started listening to back in the day. Do I think Van Hagar is Van Halen? No. They are two totally different bands in every way. The Dave/Sam thing will go on forever, and not everyone will see eye to eye on it obviously... But that's cool, there's enough music out there for everyone. I think Dave is a better front man than Sammy, and I'd like to see what a true Van Halen show is like one of these days God willing.

Already Taken care of , but hey maybe you should attend and really listen..Sams music has a deep meaning but hey if you have never suffered a great loss than you may not know how music can pull you out and that my friend is what it is all about the music and freedom of choice.

The only meaning Sam's music has to me is run of the mill pedestrian soft rock verging on adult contemporary. So which has the deeper meaning, "Spanked" or "Up for Breakfast"? :rolleyes:
Listen, I've got nothing against you personally, don't get me wrong, I just think your taste in music sucks :)
If Sam's music has pulled you out of a big loss, than it's cool by me. I recently lost my mother to cancer and left my remaining family...well, I don't want to go into it too much, but rest assured I know about big losses very, very well.
If I need something to pull me out of a moment in time I'd rather forget, though, I turn to other bands than Van Halen...Van Halen, for me, first and foremost, has been about rock and roll, the never-ending party, and getting crazy with David and the boys! During moments of loss, I can't turn to Van Halen to get me through it...this could be expanded on indefinately, but I won't get into it...
The thing of it is, Van Halen to me is about the endless good time, and it's hard to listen to if I'm in a rotten mood, so...hey man, if it works for you, OK then, but I ain't here to support Hagar and I firmly believe that Roth is the ONLY lead singer for Van Halen, and of that I will never be swayed.

Not much of a Cherone-fan. Not that he's a bad singer, though. He sings way better than Roth, but I think it was a mistake to bring him into VH. His voice is too similar to Sammy's, but not quite as powerful. So the fans (apart from the 40-50 Roth-fans out there) got something that was kinda similar but not as good. That wasn't smart.
They shoulda gone the other way, and gotten somebody totally different, with a deeper growl, like John Corabi or someone like that.

Since I resigned myself to the fact it would never happen,
There has been at least five songs recorded by the original
band. (Two of which I have heard)
So who really knows ???
If you compare the rushed efforts of the original band in 96,
to the rushed efforts of one of the replacement singer lineups
in 2004. The song quality from 96 is vastly superior..
So, who knows ???
Maybe Ed, Al (AND DAVE !!!) will finally come to their senses..

I think 'Me Wise Magic' and 'Can't Get This Stuff No More' are both pretty good! But they coulda used a real singer on there, 'cause the vocals are terrible. But the music's groovy.
That being said, I do dig the new tunes, especially 'Up For Breakfast'. Why do I dig it? Cause it gives me that great feeling that I get from tunes like 'Summer Nights', '5150', 'Get Up', 'Black'n'Blue', 'When It's Love', 'Poundcake', 'Judgement Day', 'Seventh Seal' and 'Humans Being' to name a few.

I saw Sam Hagar open for Boston in 1978. He sucked then and I still think he sucks. In fact, on his best day Sam Hagar sucks.
I can remember hearing "hellooooo Baaaaaaaaaaaaaby!" on 5150 for the first time with a curious ear in '86 and thinking that Van Halen was ruined.
I don't like his music. I don't like his style and I don't like his attitude.

Sammy Hagar = mediocre.
Maybe he IS a nice guy, maybe he does do lots for charity. Good on him. But I know lots of people who work lots for charity and they don't force their plodding "one way to rock" dirge-like music on me!
There are a couple of Van Hagar songs that I actually like (Top of the World, Right Now), so he doesn't get it wrong ALL the time.
At the end of the day though, Sammy is pretty easy to ignore, why get so upset about him?

It is not Sammy nor Dave that i get upset with it is the fact that the inability to post a reply or voic a comment that leans to support Sam you get attacked and even if you make a comment that is positive to the DLR camp you then get the same, people should think b4 they write if they are this way on this foroum then how are they in life?

Well my friend usually in your non-threatening post you are insulting people. Hence the reason for backlash. You like Sammy great I am sure almost no one on this gives a shit considering most people dont like Spammy. I first became aware of Sammy Hagar back in 81 as a solo artist after Montrose & before Van Halen. I think Sammy is a rock legend in his own right who is a great singer, songwriter & performer. I know he's not in the same leagues as Dave as a frontman or his classic rock albums during his era in VH. I think Eddie & Sammy compliment each other well onstage while my favorite album during that era is F. U. C. K.

I liked the video for "I can't Drive 55" and the song "Love Walks In" and that's it, I went to the 5150 concert in Detroit in 1985. Lost interest in VH after that concert until now. Sammy's ok but doesn't belong in VH.

We Australians knew nothing about him until Van Hagar.
All I know from these boards is that he used to sing for a
band called Montrose (which I know even less bout) and
he had a hit song called "I cant drive cos Im over 55" or
some shit.. WHich to this day I still have never heard.
He was a non event in Australia until the album 5150.
I think the following album was also received ok, in OZ,
then it was back to "who the hell is Sammy Hagar"
Actually I think it went to "Who the hell is Van Hagar" by
that point..
Nothing, Zero, Nada.. Sammy is an American only performer.
