No singers at all.

Eddie's first true-blue solo album should be entirely instrumental. Just a rip-roaring shredfest of guitar. Obviously AVH would provide the percussion, and Ed can do the bass/synth/piano/tuba (hee hee), and stun us all with some Grade A new guitar work (presuming he's capable of it).

Doing anything with a singer is gonna invite comparsions with classic VH, and any guest singer will undoubtedly throw in a bunch of half-assed Rothisms performance-wise, so why bother?

Van Halen 3 was essentially an Eddie Van Halen solo album with a guest vocalist anyway.

but as a first eddie van halen solo album, van halen 3 was not so bad.i know i'm the only one to think that here, but i don't care. it was different, exploring new things, but half of the album was wrong.there were interesting things inside too.

Personally, the only way NOT to have the Roth comparison would be to pick women vocalists, Sass Jordan, Annie Wilson, Amy Lee, Alanis Morrisette, hell, even Anastasia has a wicked set of pipes for rock music. Could be different!!

EVH doesn't have the musical vocabulary to make an all instrumental album without repeating himself over and over. Maybe in 1981 he could've pulled it off for the time, but there's no way he can compete with guys like Vai, Satch, Eric Johnson, etc. He needs a singer.

Conception COULD have been the next Queensryche...who COULD have been the next Pink Floyd...I'm so discouraged in some people's actions. It does seem to be a GUITARIST thing...Tore Ostby is a great guitarist, but it seems he has a hard time keeping singers (Roy, DC Cooper, Jorn) He's a great friend, but hard to get along with in the studio...trust me. He knows this...lol. as far as Ryche...sheesh what a waste. Seems like all my favorite band self destruct...but it's been that way forever, hasn't it? (Beatles, Purple, Zep, Floyd, VH, Priest, Ryche and on it goes...at least Priest got smart and burried the hatchet)

Joe Lynn Turner does music for commercials and stuff. I remember seeing a coffee commercial and being bothered that I knew that voice. It was a Folgers commercial I think. Anyway later on I found out it was him. Probably good easy money.

Mike Reno drives such a point home in extreme fashion, though.

Combine the mediocrity of Bryan Adams, the vocal range of Stephen Pearcy, the fashion sense of Sammy Hagar and Richard Simmons' hair-do and you get Mike Reno.

Loverboy, to this day, is the only band who's songs make me violently irritated.

Had Erwin Schrodinger proposed burying Mike Reno in the lead box with the Cyanide capsule, the most intriguing question of Quantum Physics would be rendered moot as no-one would tempt fate by digging it up again.

Speaking of Mike Reno and Bryan Adams, they are the centerpieces of my theory that the gradual decline of Western Civilization can be forecast by the Post-Rush Canadian music industry.

It goes beyond how they look.

Rock, thanks in large part to Van Halen, drove that Tiger Beat, Leif Garrett and Shaun Cassidy stuff out into the desert.

Loverboy was the Leifs and Shauns returning under the guise of rock stars.

We failed to identify the threat and look what happened. No, turn on the radio and hear what happened. The little shits are back making soulless bubblegum pop for pre-pubescents again.
