    DLR and the Blues

I am a blues hound and have been wishing like hell that Roth would do a blues only album. I was thinking this long before Aerosmith did theirs! I wish Roth had done it first. I think his voice was made to sing the blues.
IMO, the best blues is old blues. Although a decent new blues tune might come around every few years, the classic are where its at. I've always loved hearing different blues artist cover the same tune, changing a few lyrics and even the title some times. LOL.

Anyway, what I was wondering is if anyone agrees about a blues only concept for Roth and what tunes would you want to see on it. There are so many that have been re-done already that I would still love to see Roth-ed.

    - Mannish Boy
    - Dust my Broom
    - Shake it baby
    - I'm Your Hoochie coochie man
    - Boom Boom

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if DLR did something like this... He is always going in new directions musically, and an ALL BLUES CD would kick ass from Dave! He's got the right feel for some really sleazy blues tunes...

      DG,

      Excellent thread!!!

Yeah, Dave's voice is so well suited for the blues and I think a stellar hard rocking blues album would be incredible. I'll use "Land's Edge" off YFLM as one example. Also, just that little bit "Medicine Man" off "Diamond Dave" was great. Plus, I'd love to hear him go to town on the harp. I'm not very well versed in a lot of blues stuff but I think such an album would be stellar. I'd love to hear Dave do "Pride and Joy." Stuff like that would be great. We need Loons for this one as well.

Yeah, where is my buddy LOONS? Haven't seen him in ages! LOONS, get out here and help us with this thread!

In the meantime, I'll offer a few suggestions:
LOVE IN VAIN (a bit in the Stones-ish vein, but also referring to the Johnson original)
        SMOKESTACK LIGHTNING
TROUBLE (yes, this is Elvis, but it's blues and Dave could nail it)
        YOU NEED LOVE
PRODIGAL SON (again, using the Stones' amazing version as a reference)

          DAVE should cover:
          Crawling King Snake
          Boom Boom
          Dimples
          Leave My Girl Alone
          Honey Bee

DAVE would sound GREAT covering anything by John Lee Hooker or Howling Wolf. All three have bass range voices. And all 3 KICK ASS!!!

Good call on the harp, Max. He needs to bust that out. How about a tune or two of Dave and JUST his harp?!
Like "I Don't Care No More"!

Yes, that'd be mint. I love that shit!

Dimples is such a great tune. I have heard a few covers of that one. I love Doyle Brahmall's.

As soon as someone said John Lee Hooker i imagined Dave doing "Boom boom boom boom" and thought the idea of a blues album would be fantastic.

While I agree that Dave has a great voice for the blues, don't you think another cover album at this point would be the kiss of death?

Depends on how you look at it.

Only if you have great visions of it going straight to the top of the charts. If it were all in good fun like the John Lennon Rock and Roll album then i think it would be a great idea.

This is a perfect idea. Dave´s always got a black-sound voice, and did the blues themes incredible. I consider a cd with the songs of Robert Johnson the legendary. That stuff acoustically would sound incredible in Dave´s throat. (Forget about Clapton...He destroys the songs.).
                              Acoustic guitars, harps...And Dave. Great!.
