Mr. Van Halen,
I'd like to take a moment to voice an opinion that has been festering inside of me and with the passing of Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott I can finally voice my concerns towards you. I've been a fan of Van Halen since you started. I've seen you live, I've bought your albums and yes I even have the t-shirt. It's from the mindset of a fan that I'm taking the time to write something that you'll probably dismiss as a negative attack. Don't. Please use this as a springboard to do something for all of us...the fans...and for Dimebag.
Please make whatever amends that need to be made and embrace David Lee Roth back into what was the greatest rock band since the formation of the Rolling Stones.
Life is short and we aren't guaranteed tomorrow, so why live with the regret? Treat us to what was "Me Wise Magic" and "Can't Get This Stuff No More". There are thousands, no millions of us that have stayed away since "1984". Bring us back with the only thing that will fulfill Van Halen back into superstardom and back to full arenas. I saw the tears that you shed at Darrell's funeral. Those were genuine tears and not a show or alcohol induced. The same emotion that you showed at his wake is what many of us have welled up inside of us. The passing of a good friend and the reality that you can never bring him back despite all you intentions. You can do something about Van Halen though.
If it's money that fuels your inner desire then imagine what you'd be sitting on if you were to do THE right thing. Sammy couldn't do it. Gary wasn't even close. Nobody else lives up to what Van Halen is except the original 4 on stage and in the studio. You know this too. You playing ability is kicked up whenever you're around Dave. It's magic and only Dave can breathe life into the dying corpse that has become Van Halen.
I hope you can listen to the "voice" inside of you and reason with facts. Don't listen to managers, yes-men or others that say this is some bad career move. It is the best move. For the legacy of Van Halen, bury the hatchet and be the bigger man and reach across the bridge that divides you. Give us back Van Halen. For Darrell.
