I saw GNR at the Roxy a way way back, and Axl was awful.

I thought they sucked but they lucked out with getting producer Mike Clink and some good contemporary cover art.

The only thing about GNR then of any substance was the rhythm section (Izzy Duff and the drummer) and I recall Axl reacting on Slash by shoving him with the mic stand for coming up behind him centerstage.

Gar, I saw them before they were national in Detroit at a place called Harpo's. They were so drunk they could barely walk upright. After the 3rd song people in the crowd started throwing shit at Axl and he started swinging the microphone stand around. They cut the power to the stage and the house lights went up. The club manager got on the PA and announced that people could get a full refund. It got a little press, but the shows afterwards lacked in attendance because of the Detroit show. Their manager worked with Harpo's and got them back and the tickets from the previous show got you in free...me...I took the money.

When they cut Adler it showed they lacked class. When Izzy packed it showed they had no soul. When Duff and Slash reformed to make Velver Revolver...it was a bitch slap to Axl.

A few years back Hain, Brett, Glenn and I went and fucked with one some GNR site after that horrible MTV "Welcome to the Jungle" with Buckethead and Out of breath Axl appearance. We were all banned repeatedly more times than two fools a minute!!! LOL!!!

I've seen Dio, Cheap Trick, Dokken, Great White, and a Led Zep tribute band at Harpos. The beer is skunked and will make you sick but Harpos was definitely a cool place to see a rock show. Unfortunately it is just a pit now.....
