Do you think Stern can help get the mighty van halen back?

we should start a campaign on his show!!

Yes I believe he could! However, I live in Syracuse(95x) you have probably heard Howard bitchin about our station. They took him off here and replaced him with Opie and Anthony....GAY!

howard did try to get VH with Dave to do a tune for his movie. I do also believe, Dave wrote a song for the movie himself....not sure though.

At one point I really believed he could, but he's now friends with the guitarist (Aka: Eddie Van Halen) so forget it. He kisses ass rather quickly sometimes.

Maybe so, but the show they are broadcasting is from their XM sattelite show, 1 day after its aired and is so chopped up you cant even follow along. 95x is just putting them on to punish Stern.

Oh..ok....Up until the recent battles with Citadel...95x here in Syracuse, I listened to Howard everymorning from about 7:30 on....The only Dave bashing, I guess, is that DLR impersonator....other than that I hadn't heard anything. Well, we can use all the help we can get, and if it come in the form of Howard Stern being buddies with EVH... then so be it.

Howie could call Ed and say hey... why don't you stop on over for a little get together at my place...

Then he could call Dave and say the same thing.

Get Ed and Dave together, with no Alex, and who knows where it will lead.

I've heard the version somewhere...it didn't sound forced, not at all...the part "this band is tight" was sang as "my private parts" etc...

Right, but the beginning of the song was forced.

"He's on the TV, the radio........"

I can't remember the rest....the song was probably originally written as "Tight" and he just changed the words for Howard.

I believe Eddy, to his credit, made several anti-FCC censorship comments in an interview (one of the few celebrities to do so) and he defended Howard, saying basically that he hated him, but the guy had a right to free speech and all that. I think that's when Howard and EVH began to warm up more.

They originally became enemies when Stuttering John, himself a big Roftard CVH fan, went to an MTV awards show (I think) around 1991 or 1992 and asked a bunch of unflattering questions at the end of a press conference. This is all from alcohol degraded memory, so I'm paraphrasing and forgive any lapses.

Stuttering John (SJ): (to Eddie)

Since you named your first born son Wolfgang, are you going to name your first born daughter Coyote Van Halen?

VH: (I can't remember the exact response, but it was pretty negative)

SJ: Do you guys miss David Lee Roth?

EVH: No! Do you? Do you think he's better?

SJ: Yes, I do.

EVH: Well FUCK YOU THEN!

I think that was it, but it remained contentious between Stern and Van Hagar for a while.

Stern patched things up with Spammy in around 1997 or so and he had him on for the first time then. Hagar laid into Eddie by implying, but not coming out directly and saying, that EVH was a drunken hosebag.

I remember Stern turned the tables asking Sammy if he was an alcoholic (like his father apparently) because he seemed to drink a lot of tequila. Sammy said no, he only drank after the sun went down, so no. Stern then interrogated him and got him to admit that he did drink excessively and had stopped taking care of himself as he used to do.

Sammy was also on after the Sam and Dave tour thing and bashed Dave (mildly). I remember Stern asking him who would win in a fight between Sam and Dave. Sammy said he thought fighting was stupid. Good answer.

A CVH reunion, at this point would just make Dave look bad. The boots from the last tour don't lie, and Ed's sounding bad. Combined with the way Ed's been behaving on the road, the way Wolfie showed him up onstage, and the way he could really care about how poor the quality of his musical output has become, it seems that Dave's probably better off just rippin it up onstage with his solo band. DLR Band live is kick ass, and they sound awesome. Ed's days as "Super-Guitarist" are over.

As far as giving O&A a shot...I was a Stern listener for about ten years. Then, Opie and Anthony hit the airwaves, and I can tell you, honestly, I've never listened to Howard since.

These guys not only rival Stern in his heyday...they surpass him. They absolutely could NOT do what they do where it not for Howard having paved the way as he has all by his lonesome...but they are SO much funnier, and a lot less whiney than Stern is.

If what you're hearing is the non-sat version...you HAVE to hear their un-edited show. I promise you, give it a fair chance, and you may not admit it to a Stern fan, but you'll admit to yourself, that they're in a whole different, and funnier, league of their own.

Howard was the originator, and deserves ALL credit and respect. But, these guys are the new generation, and they take it to enother level.

All Stern cares about is Stern.

I think his supposed friendship with Dave is blown out of proportion.

Stern is obviously a fan, and Dave's schtick is custom-made for the show.

Probably as far as it goes.

O&A are without a doubt, way funnier than Howard. Don't hate them because they're funny. Howard invented the genre, but these guys are refining it.

In New York, when O&A were on Q104, besides Howard, they were the only other big shots on the radio. They were also 104's only number one rated radio show, and their cash cow.

O&A contemplated, and attempted a move to the morning drive time. It was a move that Howard moved to block with every favor that he could call in. Why? Because O&A'S huge popularity and ratings were a threat to him, pure and simple. He got defensive and whiney, as he does, as these guys shot to the top of New York afternoon drive time radio.

They were also repsectful of, and grateful..on air...to Howard, until he began speaking disrepectfully of them and their show. He fought to keep them off of morning radio. And, he did so because he KNEW that they were his true rivals. They had the numbers, they had the audience, and they had the material to knock him out of the number one spot in AM radio.

When you see Stern, the king of "Shock Jocks", playing the offended and injured party...when he's talking about these guys being offensive...it sounds an awful lot like those who attack him. When he goes on TV, and shames O&A to garner the applause of approval, by passing himself off as the responsible and tasteful purveyor of humor, you know something is wrong.

This wasn't bumblefuck, Ohio...it was New York City, and these guys were on fire. THAT scared him, and his insecurities really began to show in the way that he would attack them in the press, and on his show. That's partially why I stopped listening to him. The other reason was that he wasn't original anymore. I'd heard him do the same thing a thousand times. Fresh air was needed. That was O&A.

These guys attracted an army of fans. You STILL see the O&A stickers all over the place. And come on, admit that they're funny or not, but what self-respecting member of this board WOULDN'T be a fan of "Whip em out Wednesday"? Having been a "victim" of "WOW", I can tell you that it only takes a strange woman bearing her breasts to you in traffic ONCE, to make you a fan of the show. :)

Plus which, Stern is a selfish, whining baby. The politics of this next statement aside...look at his attitude towards Bush. He LOVED Bush when we started beating the hell out of the middle east. He ADORED him then. We should just nuke the place, is something he said many, many times, and was thrilled to have a President with the balls to go after these people and deal with them in kind.

His tenor changed when his dealings with the FCC set him at odds with the administration. When the FCC became a larger and more immediate threat to him and his show, then the Bush admin became his enemy, and the enemy all clear thinking Americans. So, suddenly, because Stern's freedom to talk about Vaginas, and tell fart jokes on the air, was in jeopardy...suddenly he began to portray Bush as the anti-Christ. Suddenly, the only thing that mattered in the scope of American politics was Stern's radio career. Apparently, there were no bigger issues that needed dealing with.

Look, don't like the guys or their show. That's fine. But the historical fact is that ONE act on radio, in the history of Stern's career, had the power and popularity to beat him in the ratings. The only reason that they didn't was that they got yanked for their Sex for Sam stunt.

O&A are funny as all hell. You'd have to NOT have a sense of humor to laugh. And, you need to give it more than one or two shows. Howard wasn't funny every show. In fact, there were plenty of times when he sucked days in a row before getting back on track. You have to give any show a couple of weeks to get a feel for what they do. And what these guys do, they do better than anyone else in the genre.

Howard was (and is) a big fan of CVH. Whenever VH news came up on Stern, frequently he would comment on how great a band they were with DLR. If he had the strings to pull, he would have done so already.

I think Howard knows like us how futile a reunion is between them.

By the way, for the folks who slam Howard, he became popular for being himself, good and bad, and that is what partly appeals to most of us, in a land of facades.

So he's selfish...who isn't? So he whines...who doesn't? Liked Bush and now he hates him? How many times have you changed your mind over time?

None of that detracts from his ability to provide some of the most rib-hurting laughs around. Sure, he's more mild, but at 500k for every moment of indecency, I'd shut my mouth too.

And anybody who thinks Howard's all "porn and strippers" have not listened to a full radio show.
