Judas Priest vs Iron Maiden anyone?

Priest is the more "metal" group me thinks, and they have the speed and really strong rythm guitar section. "Hot Rockin' " has got ot be one of the catchiest, feelgood songs ever. Priest has a higer ranged singer and screaming heavy metallion...
    .
    .
Maiden I dig because of the history (I dig military history) portrayed in Aces High, Tailgunner, the Trooper, etc...so thats a big plus in my book. Maiden beats Priest in the overall feel of a song. I think more non metalheads would dig Maiden before they would Priest.
    .
    .
I'd go with Priest over Madien though. Simply put becasue Maiden cannot create the perfect feel and balanced aggression of my favorite metal song ever...PAINKILLER!
    .
    .
    So what do y'all think?

Although they`re both Heavy Metal, you can`t really compare the two.

Both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Priest`s sound constantly changes whilst Maiden`s stays more-or-less the same, Maiden have the better guitarists, Priest have the better singer, Priest`s lyrics are often fantasy based campness while Maiden`s are often factual and serious etc.

I couldn`t choose between the two.

      I like Priest better.
I like both bands, but Priest have got that extra something that I can't quite put my finger. I can honestly say that up until now there is not a Judas Priest album I have heard and gone "This is a big pile of shite" (I actually quite like 'Demolition' and 'Jugfjhhsjdk', or whatever it was called-just not as much as Halford stuff, and even 'Turbo' was good) but I have with Maiden ('X-Factor', for example).
Actually, when comparing the band-I can see that Judas Priest were a big influence on Iron Maiden, especially the twin/dueling guitars.
If anybody saw them in 1979-when Maiden actually supported Priest-then, maybe you can tell us.

How about "Ram it down", "Rocka rolla" or "Jugulator"?

Don`t get me wrong, Priest are one of my all time favourite bands but you can`t go around blindly liking stuff just because your favourite band wrote it.

        That`s for pop fans.

While I wouldn`t say those albums are "a big pile of shite", they are well below par, such is the high standard Priest set themselves.

Ditto Maiden, although I would rather listen to "The X factor" than the vaccuous waste that is "Fear of the dark".

Two good songs ("Afraid to shoot strangers" and "Fear of the dark") and ten fillers do not a good album make.

I didn't think "Ram it Down", "Rock Rolla" or "Jugulator" were a big pile of shite.

Holy Fuck!! Talk about comparing APPLES and ORANGES... these two bands are the VERY ESSENCE of Metal. Both are awesome. One vs. the other is BLASPHEMY!!!! The Metal Gods are shaking their heads in disbelief.... Maybe we could have Priest vs. Maiden with MANOWAR as the Referee:-)

I actually really like ROCKA ROLLA. It's a bit more Seventies-sounding, but it's really good. HELL BENT FOR LEATHER is still their best album, IMO.

I like Maiden, but not half as much as I like Priest.

                That wasn`t what I said.

But you can`t play any of those records back-to-back with "Sad wings of destiny", "British steel" or "Painkiller" (their three best studio albums IMO) and say that they are anywhere near as consistantly good.

"The X factor" isn`t a big pile of shite either.

When you get past the poor vocals and the weak production there are some good songs in there.

I remember it took me a long time to get into it, I think because it was Maiden`s first attempt at writing lyrics about everyday issues instead of the usual fantasy and history based stuff that I was used to.

It is also a real dark album, no big singalong choruses.

As I have gotten older I have found it easier to relate to stuff like "The aftermath" and "Blood on the worlds hands".
