Tuesday's American Idol was watched, on average, by 28.1 million men, women, children and inmates of the Mobile County Metro Jail, reports E!Online.

The show's main draw at the Alabama detention center, if not the rest of the nation, was one of the night's featured auditioners, Leroy Wells.

Or, as he was known at the jail: Booking No. 200500000207.

Wells, the crunked-out, unintelligible rapper-singer-stomper who moved the Idol judges to boogie (but not to advance him to the next round), was arrested Jan. 5 in Mobile for allegedly shooting a 39-year-old man on Dec. 10 in the hip following an argument, Mobile police said.

Wells, 23, of Grand Bay, Ala., was booked on charges of carrying a pistol without a permit, firing a gun into a car and second-degree assault, jail records show. Bail was set at $12,500.

While Wells finally made bond and was released Wednesday night, he spent Tuesday night -- his American Idol night -- behind bars.

But incarcerated or not, Wells didn't miss his prime-time debut. According to WPMI-TV, he and other inmates caught the show on a jailhouse set.
