    Rare Videos: Joe Satriani

This is a video compilation of some rare and awesome Joe Satriani, and friends, live performances and studio work. You need to be using a download accelerator application on some of the large videos.

Joe tours Australia in March, and U.S in April 2005. I am sure SuperMod Panamark will have a great video for use of the show with his new digital camera, when Joe plays Sydney.

Joe also replaced Eddie Van Halen with Peavey, after Peavey decided to not renew their contractual commitments with the bum, who was in contractual violations on three commitments to Peavey.

Comments: Matt Bissonette, who played bass for DLR, after Billy "Mr. Ego" Sheehan departed (great player, pain in the ass to work with), played on this 02 Tour with Joe and is in the video. His brother Gregg, was the drummer for DLR when the EEAS band was formed, until it disbanded. Both Gregg and Matt are awesome individuals and great players. Like Joe, super easy to be around.

After Dave and the EEAS band members moved on, Gregg and Matt hooked up with Joe Satriani, to make Joe’s “Extremist” album. In my book, and many others around the world, Extremist is one of Joe’s finest compilations. Just an awesome album, imo, that really put Joe into the main stream and allowed him to attract promoters where he could Nationally Tour.

    Awesome Live Concert Footage
This is Andy Timmons playing “House Full Of Bullets” with Joe.
A lot of non-musicians may not know Andy Timmons, but like the Bissonette Brothers, he is one of the best session guitarists you can find.

He and Satriani, just smoke it together, trading licks, on this great live tune. If you don’t know Andy’s ability, trust me, you will after watching this video.

    Joe Satriani & Steve Vai
Ok, this is two masters, working in Steve’s studio together. Killer video just watching Joe and Steve work together, work out new riffs and tunes, and just rap. Big video, but well worth the download.

Note: Joe was the person who originally taught Steve Vai how to play a guitar. Steve showed up at Joe’s place with a guitar with no strings, some strings in his other hand, and asked Joe, "now what do I do to learn how to play this thing". Rest is history.

    Joe's Hair Days - 1992
This was back in the days that Joe wasn't shaving his head, because
he started going prematurely bald up top.

Here’s the first couple of numbers Joe opens his set with during a festival in Spain. He is introduced by none other than Queen's Brian May, and then proceeds to totally smoke the stage. Later in the show, Steve Vai and Brian May play with Joe. I mean does it get any better for a music purist than these three Masters playing together on the same stage? I think not.

This is the first Satch song I ever learned to play. Still one of my favorites…tons of soul.

    Dealing with the Dumb Media

This is a bizzare video shot by a news station in San Francisco where Joe was getting ready to play two nights at the legendary Filmore. Joe and another guitarist are freezing their butts off at this beach, in the fog, and perform live playing “Starry Night” for the TV crew.

I was shocked Joe could even do it, and then sound so good on this awesome slow song. Hell, his hands were almost frozen. Of course Satraini IS the world’s greatest rock fusion guitarist so I should not have been surprised Joe pulled it off with flying colors. Check it out…..

When the G3 becomes the G6

The greatest jam ever witnessed. Billy Gibbons, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucii (Dream Theatre), along with the two best session bass players in the world, Stu Hamm and Billy Sheehan. Ya know, it doesn’t get any better!

Haaa, you caught me short, I don't know how to make it work either. PM a Mod on how to do the Star deal.

          Thanks for your thoughts

Ok, not my deal to post a video of the same song twice, but this video is so good, gotta do it.

This is Joe in the studio, doing "Satch Boogie".

Excellent quality video, the whole band kicks very serious ass, and it's like you are standing right in front of Satriani and watching him play.

The video is part of a 3 song set Joe did for a Frisco TV program.

I am still in awe of that video of Joe freezing his ass off and playing Starry Night on the beach. Been following/studying Satriani for 15 years,...... thought I had seen it all, and then see this awesome video.

Hell, Joe sounds like he's cutting that track in the studio, not with some nerd news reporters, on a beach in the cold, foggy, damp Frisco air. Unbelievable

I still haven't figured out why the hell Joe is having to gig in front of East Beach in San Francisco, in that stupid weather. I mean WTF?

It's like the news station called him up, and said "hey we want to plug your Filmore gigs the next two night but we are too busy". "But, hey Joe we're doing this story on how it freezing cold and nobody is at the beaches, so just come by and we will quickly squeeze you in."

You can see Joe has his hands inside his jacket trying to stay warm.

TV Dick: .......Well, let's hear you play before your fingers get frozen.

              Joe: They already are.....

Well I've seen Joe in concert 7 times, including twice in small venues,
plus studed all this "tricks". He is not shy about using a lot of signal processing effects and equipment. My money says he's miked and plugged into a mixer/mini signal board and a guy running it off camera, for sure.

No matter what, he did one hell of a job. You notice the time, it's before 9:00 in the morning. He probably had to get up and going around 7:00 am. That usually when a lot of musician are going to bed.

                    Thanks for the thought chief!

Ok, here's a second Satriani video from the same Studio gig in Frisco as Satch Bogie posted above. (2 of 3)

Killer stuff, I never get tired of watch this great Master's guitarist.

                            Video: "Satch Tapes" 1992

This is a killer video because Joe and others talks about his career, with lots of in studio footage, and also the making of his 6x platnium/6 Grammy nominations, Extremist album, in which both Bissonnette brothers (Gregg and Matt) (who both previously played with DLR in the EEAS band), are in Joe's band for this awesome album.

Question: When the hell is the market going to get an Extremist II album?
