In the late 60's early 70's there was a hugely successful band from
Australia called the Easybeats. Fans outside of Australia would most
likey be familiar with "Friday on my mind" a song covered by many
other aritists including, Gary Moore and David Bowie.

Interesting trivial point, Angus and Malcolm youngs older brother was
the guitarist and songwriter for the Easybeats. Heavily influenced
by the Beatles, these guys had some memorable unique hits..

So one, Im wondering if anyone else knows about them, two,
Im desperatley seeking a recording of Evie Parts 1,2 and 3.

This was recorded by Stevie Wright (Their Lead singer) after
they disbanded...

PM me if you can hook me up, Ive looked everywhere (legally)
for this..

Nothing like answering a question with a question....

I remember bits and pieces about the Easybeats, but have never heard any of the music.

The Australian imports I have are on the "Albert Productions" label.

I seem to remember hearing the guy behind that label was in The Easybeats.

Was that the Young's brother?

Actually the two guitarists (Vanda and Young) went on to produce AC/DC and also form the band "Flash in the Pan" who also had
a couple of international hits... So Russ, I think the answer is yes.

I always loved that tune. Very adventurous for the sixties.
That's the only one I knew from that band, unfortunately.
No luck on ebay?

Actually through Ebay I just found out that JET are doing a cover
version of Evie. But not all three parts. (I dont think ?) I want the original anyways.

Its a cool song, its comprised of three songs, all of which can be
played on their own, or played together. When played together
it tells a very sad tale. Great old Australian classic. Just cant find
it in any record shops or online anywhere. (Combo Rock and Ballad)

I'm not sure the Easybeats ever really had any hits over here. "Friday On My Mind" might have been, but I never remember hearing it before Ac/Dc hit the airwaves in this part of the world (late 70's) Since then, it's become a tradition for the classic rock station to play the song at 5:00 PM every Friday.

Yeah Im not sure what songs they did, that became international
hits, Friday on my mind definately made the US and British charts,
a lot of their stuff has been covered by other bands. So you have
probably heard a few of their tunes and not even known it..

They were pretty good for what they were. Poor old Stevie Wright
totally fucked himself on heroine. But Evie, (Parts 1,2,3) is a
real Australian classic, I want to play it to my better half.

No problem.

So what's it sound like. Is if Beatlelike or progressive ?

Its Rock (almost hard rock in Pt 1), with a Ballad in Pt 3.

The thing that is cool, is each part is a worthy song on its
own, but the three played succesively tells the whole story.

Do you want my personal interpretation of the story, or
do you want to wait till you hear it ???

I definately want to hear it.
I don't have a point of reference to your interpretation unless I hear it.

Certainly the concept sounds interesting, reminds me of side two of Abbey Road or Rael by the Who where different pieces flow into each other, and it works.

I guess the whole world is about to hear it if JET has done the big cover thing. I havent heard the JET version yet, so I cant comment, but
the original is really great.

A bit of trivia.
Evie Pts 1-3 is supposed to be the longest song to hit No1 in any English speaking country to this day.The full thing runs 11 minutes and got played back in the day.

It goes like this

Pt.1 - the heavy riff /rock part.
Pt.2 - the ballad
Pt.3 - goes uptempo (different to Pt1)

The first 2 parts usually get played seperately on the radio.

I thought the third bit was the ballady part..
My bad... I guess Im just used to hearing the first
two bits..

Goose, do you have it ?????????

If yeah, PM me....

Yeah sure is a long song, its a classic though!

The group that covered it recently were a supergroup that call themselves The Wrights...consisting of members of Aussie bands Jet, The Living End, Grinspoon & Spiderbait (I think thats all of 'em). I think they formed to to raise money for the Tsunami appeal.
