4a. Airplane
5a. Holy Grail

??? What were you thinking keeping these off??

Not all can make a top 10 list. Airplane would be maybe 11. I do not find Monty Python funny. Never really got English humor. Nor do I find anything pre 70s funny-Stooges, Abbott & Costello, etc.

Mont Python And The Holy Grail
Airplane
Blazin' Saddles

The Airplane humor has been beaten to death, but when it first came out it was absolutely hysterical.

American Pie was fall out of your chair funny and probably ranks a top 10.

1st Ace Ventura movie. Jim Carey...genius

Forrest Gump

Someone will probably mention Young Frankentein and Slapshot, but neither really made me laugh out loud. Neither did Animal House or Fast Times. My idea of a good comedy is one where you laugh so hard you have to drop your popcorn or your coke because you need a free hand to grab your ball sack before your nards get sucked up into your chest cavity.

Way Out West (Laurel and Hardy)
School of Rock (don't let the kids put you off)
Still Crazy (Billy Connolly/Tim Spall/Jimmy Nail/Bill Nighy. About an ageing 70's rock band reuniting)
Life Of Brian ("I'm Not The Messiah")
Naked Gun (all 3)
Spaceballs
Robin Hood-Men In Tights
Airplane ("Stop calling me Shirley")
Freddy Got Fingered (although, I was laughing more out of shock than at the jokes)
The Rutles (Eric Idle's Beatles spoof)
Holy Grail ("We are the knights who say 'ni'")
The Parole Officer (Steve Coogan is a genious)
The Blues Brothers (one of my all-time faves.)

This is Spinal Tap.

"Ours go to eleven."

I do enjoy watching Spinal Tap, but I think it is very overrated. As far as spoof documentries go, Eric Idle's The Rutles is much better.

Although Antman and DLR7884 will probably disagree, British humour is better than American humour-mainly because we don't produce shitty teen sitcoms like 'Saved By The Bell' and whatever the fuck else.

Little did Steve Martin know when doing that scene, that it would have a huge effect on millions of people who now leap around the house like an idiot every year when the new phonebooks arrive. Hell, I did that just last night when I found a new phone book in my driveway!

:D

I could not find any pics of him doing the phone book dance, but here is an alternate:

Actually as far as rock band pseudo-documentaries go, I dug BAD NEWS TOUR more than Spinal Tap.

Your opinion of American sitcoms is based on "Saved By the Bell?"

Ever heard of Seinfeld, Cheers, or other sitcoms that were actually on during prime time?

DLR7884
Saved By the Bell was a Sat. a.m. show.

My opinion of British comedy is based on the fact that I hate the accents (sorry).

DLR7884
I also base it on Hugh Grant.

'Cheers' I find watchable (Frasier's spin-off is better), 'Seinfeld' I hate.

The only american sitcoms I can say I actually like are 'Frasier' and 'Soap', and I like the sarcasm in 'Friends' (sarcasm is my favourite form of humour).

American sitcoms don't seem to be as realistic as British ones. 'Friends' wasn't realistic because nobody ever seemed to go to work and NOBODY is as stupid as that Joey guy. Not to mention that for people who hardly ever go to work, they neve wear the same clothes twice. They must all have that 'closet' from 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' and keep everything in Narnia. Then. you look at 'The Office', which is very popular in UK, and I heard comments from family members who have worked in offices like " (ex-bosses name) was like that, wasn't he?"

'Fawlty Towers' was mostly based on stories that real hotel owners had told John Cleese; Dead guests, rats, inspectors. Then you look at something like '3rd Rock From The Sun', which is about Aliens on earth. If aliens found a way to land on earth, they wouldn't be that stupid.

I got a bunch of old 80s comedies recently and They Call Me Bruce? wasone of them. Couldn't find They Still Call Me Bruce?. "Master Cho's a pussy" "You kick my ass any day of week? I'm sorry but I'm busy all week." Another great underrated comedy was Night Patrol with The Unknown Comic. Fuckin classic.

More keep coming to mind. The Search for One Eyed Jimmy is a must see. Steve Buscemi, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, Dave Balducci, Samuel Jackson, all the Turturros. Rent it, buy it, steal it. You won't be disappointed. Paulie Walnuts is in it too.

Pretty much all of my fav's have been mentioned already...but my absolute personal favourite comedy of all time is Eddie Murphy's 'Delirious'.
I know it's stand-up & not a movie but fuckin hell, in my humble opinion its the funniest fucking piece of comedy ever comitted to film. Eddie Murphy in his foul-mouthed prime, now thats the shit. I find it a shame that he's wimped out to more family orientated stuff of late, but hey...I guess having a family will do that to ya.

The sequal Eddie Murphy's "Raw" is an honorable mention!
