Im a bit nervous for the game coming up this afternoon.
It will be interesting to see how the Blues play without Stevens.

Geez, the Bombers looked like they used up all their
energy in the first five minutes. All Collingwood after
that. Essendon can thank the football gods that
the Pies were not kicking straight, otherwise it
would have been a massacre....

Good to see James Hird play so well at his last
Anzac day game.. Also Davey for Essendon was
exciting, but thats about it for the Dons today...

Surprised that Collingwood didnt win by ten goals.
Score board flattered Essendon.

:D :D :D

Dan

Great Win for The Aussies.

Gilly was wreaking havoc beyond proportions.

I managed to stay up most of the night watching the WC. Once Sri Lanka went into bat that's when I went back to sleep cause I'd already assumed the damage had been done in the batting and there was no hope for them.

Good to see McGrath go out with Man Of The Series award.

Hey Mark, how come did you have to rely on Foxtel to watch the game??? I was able to watch it on the regular Ch 9...

Panamark
05-02-2007, 02:35 AM
Grant ???

Fook knows.. Perhaps I checked during an ad break and
just assumed they werent showin it.. Did they show any other
games ? I thought it was a Foxtel only deal..

Spewin !! Ive got High Def on Nine.....

Hey, I got all my footy tips right this week except the Blues..
(And that was a close game too)

I might hit the TAB this week :)

Grant
05-02-2007, 03:24 AM
I didn't really watch any of the WC games apart from the final. I'm very certain it was on 9 and not necessarily Foxtel. Even one of the guys on Triple M this week (dunno who) said he's happy that the WC is over so he could go back watching Quizmania. lol

I'm off the TAB till the rest of the year due to a massive loss back in January which I lay blame entirely on Matthew Hayden. :)

Im still in front with the TAB, thanks to a mysterious black dude
I talked to in a Bar 20 years ago who told me, (after a few drinks
and chatting away)
"Tomorrow, Benbarra Queen" you can put your house on it.

Well I didnt have a house at the time, but me and my old man
put down about $500 on this nag that was running around 30/1
Seriously, it ran last for the entire race, then came out of
nowhere in the final straight... Needless to say it was a good
day for me and Dad :)
We thought we were gone for most of the race..
Paid for my sister's wedding actually..

My tips for this weekend.

Blues (Do I ever not pick the Blues ? )
Hawks
West Coast
Crows
Swannies
Lions
Port
Cats

Man, how bad are Carlton hurting after losing Nick Stevens ??
As a Carlton fan I knew they would struggle after that news.
Before that, I thought the Blues were a chance at the top 8..
Not now..

There was several good fights between Carlton/Collingwood
right on and during quarter time..
I think Fev can consider himself lucky with just a fine.

Good to seeya Plexi ! Bummer about Bomber, Grant, he's
a good bloke, he made this thread really cool. Wheres
our other mate from SA hiding ?? He knows who he is :)

In League, Go The Eels !
(Fookin ell, Ive been waiting for them to win again
since about 86, very frustrating team, so close, too
many times, and then choked !!)

Dan, sorry about the Demons, man they almost
did it this week. Actually the AFL and NRL ladders
are really interesting, almost any of the bottom
sides can string together a series of successive
wins and suddenly be in the top 8....

I was actually glad that Queensland won it last year only because I've always liked Mal Meninga and thought he would make a great coach, and because it got boring that NSW was dominating the Origin every year.

I'm looking to forward it, too! At least this year I can watch the Origin without having to hear the media drumming up a rescue petition to bring Andrew Johns back into the NSW squad.

Yeah, Bomber's a top bloke, and loves his footy!

If ya ask me, Panamark, the Eels should've won in 2005. They were on fire then! I was hoping for a Dragons v Eels final, since my best mate is a Eels supporter and I'm a Dragons supporter, instead both teams decided to choke when the crunch time came.

I can tell before 2004, every year in league it was always the same typical good teams at the top of the ladder and the same typical crap teams down the bottom. But now it's hard to decide who is going to go well. It's good to see the Rabbitohs doing better than in the so many years before.

Hi Grant,

Yeah Ive been a bit disinterested in league since
Parra choked back in 2005... Still watch the occasional
game and will be watching Origin (of course) GO THE BLUES !

I reckon if the bunnies get going it will be really great for
the game. I couldnt believe it when they were shafted in
that whole superleague fiasco, The NRL should thankgod
the game didnt disintegrate after that crap..
Imagine if the AFL ditched Collngwood/Carlton or Essendon..
There would be hell to pay.
A premiership win to South Sydney would Rock !

Onto Aussie Rules, heres my picks, I think they are
very close to yours Grant. Go the Blue Baggers !!

Adelaide
Brisbane
Geelong
Saints
Carlton
Sydney
Collingwood
West Coast

Panamark
05-20-2007, 03:25 AM
Ok..

Im officially pissed off with the AFL now :(
Off to a flyer last night (Carlton)
The umpires then proceeded to give the Roos
too many soft frees, directly in front of goal..
To be fair, they awarded two to Carlton.
But I lost count of those awarded to the Roo's..
At least 8 goals I reckon..
Were the umpires instructed to play to the
gold coast crowd, as its an emerging market
for North Melbourne ???

Ok, I know the new rules say you cant put your
hands in the back of the front marking player,
but farken hell !! Even on replay the defenders
were only lightly touching them. When there is a shove
involved its obvious, you can see the player
move. What are you meant to do in a marking
contest know ?? Hump the dude in front, out of
the way ?? I am all for the new rule, but they
have to determine if the hands actually stopped
backward momentum of the front player, or
physically moved him forward... If there is no
clear path to punch, what the fuck is the defender
meant to do ??

Officially disinterested now.

GO THE EELS !!!

Dan

Cheers big-ears! Computers ain't my most knowledgeable.

Pretty sure that was in 1987. Dowling sure had some guts wanting to rumble with Tamati.

Since that incident, double sin-binning had to be maintained with one player being sent off first, then the ref waiting for a decent interval till that player leaves the field, then he sin-bin the other. The only problem is that it became common for first player to wait for the second at the interchange tunnel to continue where they left off. :D

I still got the original one. They say not to unscrew
him, (as it will supposedly fuck him up) but thats
a lot of crap.. Just 2 aa batteries in there, easy to
change too..

It was really funny as he became possessed about
12 months ago. I found it so amusing I chucked him
in the car so I could have a laugh while driving..
I reckon someone hacked him somehow..

Freaked my wife out when she first heard him,
she thought there was a ghost in the house !

1-0 to the Maroons.... :(

Actually its hard for me to feel too pissed off,
I used to be a Queenslander.. hehhehe

Felt pretty sorry for that Richmond player not getting that last goal in dying moments when the scores were level. You can tell he was pissed and shattered by his expressions when the siren went. That sure hurt Richmond.

Swans were robbed..
Im still undecided about Essendon this year.
James Hird is still playing unbelievably, even
in the diminished time they now give him.
I think this is a great idea by Sheedy, I think
all the ageing champions should be treated
this way. I reckon Pagan will start using Koutafides
in this fashion.. They did this to good effect
against the doggies on the weekend.

Whats happening to the SCG ? Looks like they have
knocked down 1/4 of the stands there ?

Is that guy on the wing still playing? He had a shocker a few weeks back with letting a few soft tries in, some being silly mistakes. If he's not improving, then he's gotta go.

Go the Blues, although I'm pessimistic about their chances this week. There's hardly been any unity in the build-up to this crucial match. Kimmorley needs to produce something special. At least he's got some Origin experience behind him, and his mistake in Game 1 in 2005 should give him the motivation to vindicate himself.

Congrats to QLD! That was indeed a gutsy effort towards the end - had me on the edge of my seat.

Just too bloody bad that referee did us in - all within the space of 2 minutes - from Bailey's stupid unnecessary unwarranted penalty against Price, then that obvious forward pass that led to the clincher try. Still what can you do. Personally, I thought it was a very even match and looking to end up as a draw, and possibly field-goal attempts within the final 10. Still, that's not to take anything away from Queensland's great effort.

I have still got it on video, he was beyond brilliant.

I also played on there in 1988 when my band released it's first single, I kept on looking at the wrong camera and everytime I looked at the right camera they swapped to the one I wasn't looking at. I ended up being a judge on Red Faces.

I have only a vague memory of Dave being on Hey Hey as I was sick that particular night.

It was 1988, and iIt was the Skyscraper tour.

I remember being surprised Dave was on Hey Hey as I hadn't seen ANY promo's advising he was gonna be on. Not one!

I didn't see the whole show, but I think he only appeared as a judge on the RED FACES segment and did not perform.

I do not remember him talking AT ALL! Very odd!

Rather disappointing really, but Dave was AWESOME at both performances that year at the National Tennis Centre (now Rod Laver Arena) in Melbourne, and the sound there was excellent. Took my sister and two nieces on the second night... they were not fans before, but have been ever since!

20 years as coach is a long time, and he's ousting was an injustice to the great man for all the contributions he's done for the club. From his interviews he really looks bummed about the whole thing. At least it will fire up the Bombers to play even harder for his sake.

Good to see ya around, mate.

Hey Mark, do you listen to 101.7 WS-FM at all? At work here we gave the radio station a change to them and last few days been hearing a bit VH news coming in. I just heard news report today commenting that Dave with VH will rejoining for North American tour in October, and a few days ago they played a snippet of 'Jump' in the background and they had Dave, Ed, and Alex's voices (no Mike) talking like from some sort of past interview (or perhaps recent?). Just thinking it's kinda cool to be hearing this on radio here instead of internet.

Well - technically - there's many versions of "football" in Australia. We were just purely exploiting that loophole. :D

Great win by Geelong! Will be barracking for them next weekend.

Superb win by Melbourne! They deserved it, and Matt King's (aka Side Show Bob) last minute try just won me $50. :)

Lawn Bowls..

My Dad ! He's tearin it up all over Australia ;)
State Champ in Vic..

So we are making early season predictions.

AFL, its hard to see the Cats dropping away, but
those fuckers down in Geelong have been partying away
since that day (including the players) and if I could
ever predict the dreaded "premiership hangover" it
would be with those guys.. Eagles or Cats, and
maybe Swans.... Watch out for the mighty Blues,
they could make the finals for the first time in
a long time. I think even Bomber will agree with
that one...

NRL ??? Crikey thats tough.. I didnt think Melbourne
was gonna get where they did..
Sentimentally, The Rabbits or the Eels..
I wish the Eels would fuck of Dennis Fitzgerald.

Can't argue you with that. :D
He became an international superstar, even the Yanks know who he is. I remember not long after that Hoppa incident happened I was on a contiki holiday in Queensland. One night in the pub there we were watching the league and started talking to a Victorian bloke about footy, and naturally he says he's an AFL guy. I asked him if he follows league, and he's says "no". I then asked him if he knows anything at all about league, and again he says "no". I then asked him if he's even heard of Andrew Johns - the greatest player in the world - and again he says "no". So, I then asked him about John Hopoate, and he goes "Oh yeah, I know that guy" and laughs. lol

It's too early for me to make predictions in either code. In the league though, I won't be at all surprised if the Bunnies up the tempo even better this year, and the Roosters should get into the Top 8 this season. Probably be another Broncos or Bulldogs year if they get back to their game. IMO, the Eels would do so much better without Tim Smith.

In the AFL, I wouldn't have the faintest clue who'd be hot the contender, I suppose Eagles is up for that one again. I hope that Swans players enrolled themselves into 'Barry Hall HALL' in the off-season for 2008 preparation.

Lawn Bowls? Maybe Little Johnny is out there on the pitch now. ;)

Don't follow the V8s.

Spoke to Bomber not long ago and he told me he can get internet access at work (not at home though) but work has barred his access to the Army, probably because of raunchy material that is occasionally shown. LOL ! Yeah you are probably right about old BOMBER,

I guess Im getting older, but I can pretty much get into
all forms of football now. Having an American wife has
taught me all about Gridiron, and I enjoy watching it.
(Both at College and NFL levels).

Something I noticed between our cultures and football,
we watch intensely as our games are so fast flowing in
comparison. In the US, I noticed (due to the NFL stoppages
every other minute) there is a lot more conversing between
everyone watching during the game.. I found that odd at first,

I'm so used to watching an AFL game thats going down to
the final seconds, having a mini heart attack and threatening
serious bodily harm to any fucker that should walk within 5 feet
of the TV, or attempt to communicate with me !! LOL :D

I had Rugby figured out in about 2 weeks after moving
to Sydney, which is funny as my Sydney mates took
about 2 years to figure out AFL.. hehheheh... Ah well..
Tis a complex set of rules we have created...

But the one form of football that I dont go out of my way
to watch is soccer. (Unless its world cup and Australia
are involved).

0-0 Draws... How fucking exciting is that shit ????

I'm A Holden Man From Way Back.

Sorry man, I'm just not into any motorsports at all. Did get to catch the Formula One though in Melbourne a few years back. Was bloody loud!

I know how that feels Mark. I started getting into AFL (just a little bit) back in 1996 when Swans were riding high under Tony 'Plugger' Lockett and League was up shitcreak with Super League. I didn't really start getting into it until about 2003 when saw Swans v Lions at SCG. I met Bomber round that time so I'm sure he's had some influence on me, and it was damn great when Swans won it in 2005. I was at the querters match against Geelong when Nick Davis kicked the last goal in dying seconds and the place went ballistic. Also lot of my mates have been turned onto to it to so we always catch many of the games out at Homebush nowadays. I do admit though that AFL crowds are more hardcore than NRL ones from my experience...unless you're troubles Bulldogs supporter who lives out in Punchbowl. ;)

In regards to soccer, I grew playing the game but don't watch it that much anymore unless of course World Cups and maybe Euro championships or FA Cup finals if I'm up late enough. I'm first and foremost brought up on League so I guess that's where my heart lies. Union I give it a watch only during the World Cups. NFL I suppose I would need to watch it live to really get into. I think that's the same with nearly every sport.

Cool bananas! Yeah, I remember Sweet Secrets. Hope she's doing well and fully adjusted into Australian life. :)

I was seated possibly in the worst position available, basically in GA area right back under the upper concrete stands. You know usually near where the cricket fanatics usually are located directly opposite the Members Stand. I was doing alot of shuffling around that night to get a good clear view.

I cite that game as the 2nd best sporting moment I've witnessed live - right behind our World Cup qualifier win against Uruguay. Bomber came up for that game too. It was the first time he'd been to Sydney.

Panamark
02-07-2008, 08:07 PM
Well there ya go, I now know I've been to an Aussie Rules
game with you and Bomber there..

We were Directly behind the goals at the Randwick end,
right next to the umpires race. My mate who was with
us that night has the loudest screaming voice you have
ever heard, and he literally leaned over the race and
screamed some expletive ridden outburst right in the
umpires face.. lol.... I reckon the Ump would have copped
some spitballs we were so close to him..
If you remember at half time the umpires had been
giving Geelong some gimmes that were questionable..

Huh ! Good one :)

Actually, Bomber only came up Sydney for the soccer WC Qualifier.

Good stuff! Congrats Mark and SS! :)

We wont be there as our new arrival is imminent

Grant

Nah, wasn't Foxtel it was normal telly. It was on whatever channel that Crime Investigation Australia program is on because it came on straight after that which was about 2am on the Sunday morning. Nathan Buckley was one of the commentators. It was pretty amusing to hear him admit that his team is playing shithouse. :D

I gotta admit I lost a lot of respect for many musicians
out of that band. Van Halen are undoubtedly pioneers and
worthy to exist in the same sentence as Led Zep and Black Sabbath.

VR just "went through the moves" in that tribute.
Granted, looking at "THE OTHER HALF" probably wasnt
too inspirational, but I swear I can play ATBL after 2 bottles
of Jim Beam better than what those fuckers did..
They were sloppier than a 50 year old whore up the cross...

They should have been honoured to represent Halen and
do it with feeling..

Sorry mate, love ya in a blokey way, but even Slash
fell down some pegs for me that night..

Grant
02-12-2008, 05:09 PM
I agree with you entirely mate, and to be honest I'm not that into VR for you to apologise over it lol. Actually, I only bought both VR albums recently and have very rarely listened to it. They're a good act live and that's why wanted to catch them again, I saw them on the first tour. When I first heard the idea at the time that they were the ones doing the tribute to Van Halen at the RNRHOF last year, I thought it was a great idea - it was certainly better than having Kid Rock. But they did indeed fucked it up, it was SO painful to watch!

Grant
02-18-2008, 05:07 PM
You blokes see the interview with Wally Lewis on ACA last night? Pretty amazing I must admit, the guy apparently was PLAYING with epilepsy towards the end of his career. Such a story would've been more suitable on Enough Rope than irritating current affairs programs.
