    Diver Down/1984 Combined

I love both albums. With the exception of "Dancing in the Streets" I love all tracks. But compared to the first 4 albums (which all tracks are totally awesome) some of the songs are a little bit weaker on these last two cds. But, I think that if these two albums would've been combined, it probably would've been the best CVH album of them all. If only Dave and Ed would've worked together better in this time period, maybe it would've looked like this:

    Jump
    Panama
    Secrets
    Hang Em High
    The Full Bug
    Pretty Woman
    I'll Wait
    Little Guitars
    Hot For Teacher
    Happy Trails

See, in my opinion these were the two weakest album, but combined, I think this would beat out the other four albums.

Not a bad combo of songs. . .Personally, I'd go with House of Pain instead of I'll Wait, but that's just me

Either way, I'd prefer them as they are now

yeah, House of Pain would work also, and by the way, I'm not saying that I wish I'd never heard the other songs, I like all of them, its just that a combo of them would just of been amazing

          Two completely different albums.

1984 is a complete statement, and material like Little Guitars wouldn't fit on the same palate as Panama or Hot For Teacher.

Listen to hot for teacher, then the full bug. Both have intense energy.

They are not "completely different albums." David Era Van Halen is very consistent. All their stuff rocks!

Different, but deffinetely not completely different. Little Guitars could be on the same palate as Top Jimmy, and Full Bug or Hang em High could go with a lot of 1984 tunes, so there is deffinetely some common ground. You might even be able to argue that these two have more common ground than any other two CVH albums, but I haven't given it enough thought yet.

If I had to condense them into one album, or was picking tracks for a compilation tape, would probably choose the following:

                    Hang 'Em High
Cathedral/Secrets (these two tracks have always been one in my mind)
                    Little Guitars
                    The Full Bug
                    Drop Dead Legs
                    Hot For Teacher
                    Girl Gone Bad
                    House Of Pain

But there's a flow to both of those albums. It's not one slamming rocker after another.

Your opinion is that 1984 was one of their weakest albums?

In what way....can't be album sales, or popularity of the songs/singles/videos.

I prefer to keep each album seperate.

I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with the last two albums

i don't know. i think it depends on whether you want a straightforward rocker of an album, or something a little different. (as dave-era van halen has always been.)

no one would accuse "big bad bill" as a hard rock anthem. but i definitely like the vibe dave's got on it. and personally, i think the ending of BBB segues perfectly into the build up of "the full bug." 2 songs that are completely different, yet go really well back-to-back.
