Reading about Billy Owens in another thread prompted me to post this. Let's get a list of great college players who sucked in the pros. Football, basketball, whatever. Here's my list off the top of my head:

Billy Owens, Syracuse
Tim Couch, Kentucky
Almost all Duke basketball players
I'm close to putting Pat Burrell on this list

Scott May, Kent Benson, Sam Bowie, Keith Smart .. there are more than will come to mind as this thread goes.

Duke basketball players....for sure.

Also, Mateen Cleeves....remember him?

Lou

LOL, I forgot about him.

I remember the O'Bannon brothers at UCLA ten years ago, didn't do shit in the pros if they even made it. Also anyone remember Felipe Lopez of St. John's or Cuonzo Martin of Purdue?

Steve Alford, man lots of Hoosiers ... Bo Kimble ...

Lots in football too. Gino Toretta, Chuck Long, Desmond Howard, Ryan Leaf ...tons there too.

Rick Mirer and Brian Bosworth instantly come to mind. Seahawks could have built their stadium with the money wasted on those two.

And pretty much any WSU quarterback except Bledsoe has been worthless in the NFL.

Harold Minor-USC.

Baby Jordan, my ass.

Sean Respert comes to mind.

Tough to say that about a Super Bowl MVP. He may have been an average NFLer but to say he "sucked" is strong.

Didn't that guy pass away?

Akili Smith - bitched about Couch going before him.
Cade McNown - Why the Bears have Grossman now.
Andre Ware - Back in the day, we were excited.

Olowakandi .... (Dare was a good one DLR7884).

For winning the Heisman ... and the #4 overall, he became a solid kick returner. Not even sure if he was the MVP of that game, although he did win it.

David Rivers from Notre Dame in the 80's.

Was drafted by the Lakers, but never amounted to anything.

After he retired four or so years into his career.

He sucked, and now he's dead.

Marinovich. Michigan State

They shoulda summoned him to the steroid waste of tax dollar hearings.

Not sure if he was considered a great college player but Greg Ostertag sucks.

And that reminds me--ERIC MONTROSS. LOLOLOL!!!

ANY BODY that has come out of Syracuse! Prior to Carmelo

Coleman, Seikly, Douglas, Pearl...etc...etc

Lou

Coleman was just a complete waste of ability. Had he cared, he could have been a terrific power forward for years. Instead he was very good for a few years and then just garbage after that.

Seikly was alright. Wasn't horrible, he was decent.

I'll put my two cents in for this...

great topic Lou...we've touched on this in several threads...

but never an overall topic like this one...

David Klingler.

Ki-Jana Carter (should injury count?)

The recent selections of Courtney Brown and Gerard Warren of the Browns. William Green and Couch too ...

Ouch.

Lou

I forgot about David Klingler. Wow, was he bad.

The Bengals and Browns seem to fuck up every single draft pick, don't they.

Lou

I don't think I saw Ralph Sampson on this list yet either.

Dan Wilkinson was another #1 that fell well short of expectations.

Another Bengal.

Lou

WOW, I forgot about him too. Browns and Bengals...two totally incompetent organizations. There's only one bigger joke in football and that's the Arizona Cardinals, who have been the joke of football for over 50 years.

Heath Shuler for the Skins. Danny Wuerfuell (sp?).

Art Schlichter (sp again?) from OSU. Great college QB IMO and bit as a pro.

Todd Marijuanavich went to USC actually. Dickhead was there when I was, so I remember his dumb ass pretty well.

The only three Duke players I can recall being anywhere close to great in the NBA are Grant Hill (obviously), Elton Brand, and Corey Maggette.

Don't forget KiJana Carter from Penn St. Didn't that pussy bitch and whine for money and playing time, and when he finally got it he sucked and then got hurt?

No he went to Michigan State. I used to drink beer with him!

Todd Mandarich

He had some decent seasons for a while. Injuries took their toll, but no he never was the dominant player he was in college. Although Laker fans will never forget his miraculous tip-in to send the Rockets to the Finals in '86.

LOL, he went to SC man, sorry.

Mandarich is who he meant.

If not...I'll put him on the board.

Green Bay selects him...and Detroit with the next pick pick this puny little back named Barry Sanders.

Did he even get drafted?

I'm a Maryland fan, but I'll be the first to admit that Joe Smith has been a HUGE flop.

DLR7884
He should have stayed in school.

Chris Jackson...point guard at LSU. I think he changed his name to Muhummad Abdul Raouff, or something like that.

The guy was unstoppable in college, and he couldn't buy a bucket in the pros.
