    The irony of today.

Yes. The Pope will die at any moment. So will my cousin.

He was in a car accident last saturday evening. He was drinking and driving with two other friends. They lost control and the car rolled, throwing my cousin and one of the others out of the car.

He suffered severe trauma to the head and his brain stem is damaged beyond repair. This is causing his brain to fill with blood. As of an hour ago, the doctors said that he will die any minute.

This kid has been troubled for most of the past few years. He is 17 and hasn't been going to school. Late last week he called his mother to tell her that he wanted to get a job and start living his life the right way. That's all over now. He was a really nice kid. My aunt and uncle are going to donate his organs so there will be some good to becaome of it.

Sorry to post this here, but I am having a hard time with this.

That's horrible. Sorry to hear that Roy. Sometimes putting something down in writing, however small, can help clear one's head.

Thanks. I've been trying to think of other things most of the day. Tough to do.

Sorry to hear about that, Roy.

Seems just about everyone I talk to these days has just lost someone or in the process of losing someone. I have 2 friends with cancer right now, and things aren't looking very good for either of them.

And though I'm not Catholic, I'm saddenned by the Pope's passing as well, because I believe the man really tried to make a difference, whether it was helping the Labor movement in his native Poland, which led to the downfall of Communism more than anything Reagan ever did, or being the first Pope to visit Israel, which was something long overdue.

I hope his successor brings some much needed reforms in other areas though.

        Rest In Peace, JP

Thanks, FORD. I'm sorry to hear about your friends. Cancer is a terrible thing. I have seen many friends and family suffer through it only to die in the end. My wife comes from a family where cancer is so common it's scary. We are still young, but I often worry about the future and her well-being.

You are also right about the lack of credit the Pope gets for the ending of communism/Cold War. Heck, even Reagan's staff freely admits to checking every move they made with the Pope's office. He was THE key figure in that victory yet he gets little credit. He probably wouldn't want it anyway. He was a humble man to say the least.

I, too, am hopeful for a successor that keep the legacy, but yet move forward as you said...priest marriage, etc.

Thanks, man. I really appreciate it. I hope he is in peace now, too. He has had a rough past few years.

Sorry to hear about your cousin, Roy. He sounds like a nice kid. Your family is doing the right thing with the Organ donation. It will make you all feel better down the road later on. God Bless.

I'm really sorry for you, Roy. Sudden death is always painful, but it's even more shocking at your cousin's age . My prayers go to you and your family
