Flippin' the channels this weekend. Hit CMT. Video for "Get right with the MAN" comes on. Recognize Johnnie Van Zant right away. Pretty cool country song. Donnie opens his mouth and I fall off the couch!!! Sounds JUST LIKE RONNIE!!!

WOW!! Very promising partnership. Dug the song. Will be picking up the cd when it gets released!!

Thanks for posting this, bro. I actually like it more than the latest Skynyrd stuff. I'm one of those Ronnie Van Zant-only Skynyrd fans...though I did see the reunion band a few times and really liked it. I also thought THE LAST REBEL was a great album. And this sounds more like that.

Did Donnies EVER sing lead in 38 Special?!? I was amazed at how much he sounded like Ronnie. WAY moreso than Johnnie!

Remember hearin' Donnie on rockline years ago and some guy asked "Why aren't YOU singing for Skynryd?!?"
Donnie: "I got my own band."

Most of the songs that Donnie sang in .38 special weren't really good enough to get radio play. He does do a duet with Don Barnes. Wild Eyed Southern Boys. It a great tune. Most of their stuff is pretty good.
If I want any shit out of you, I'll squeeze your head.

Don Barnes is technically a better singer too.

I agree.. I've seen Skynyrd live and they were really good. I dare say it impressed me. I had no expectations at all. But recently I saw them on something and they were doing "Travlin Man". The music was awesome but Johnny was having issues that night. Having seen them live and remember how good they were that night, it just disappointed me. There show is lull free. But he was offkey, behind the music, and missed some of the notes all together. Don't know if he was sick or what. I know he had to have some kind of surgery or whatever no long ago cause doctor found something on his vocal chords that was gonna make him lose his voice. Maybe he isn't fully back yet.
.38 Special had some catchy tunes back in the day. I have them live at Sturgis in 99 and they sounded really good. I'm confused about Donnie Van Zant though. I've seen 3 videos on VH1 Classic and I don't know what he's doin. He holds a guitar but doesn't play it. One of them, all he did was run around the stage wearing a hat that had hands and string to pull and make em clap for the entire video. He didn't go to a mike, he didn't pick up a guitar, he didn't sing backup. He ran around the stage and that was it. The only time I've ever seen him pretend to play was when Don Barnes left and he was replaced by that dude that sold them out in 88 or 89 with the pussy ballad "Look Away". So what exactly is his role in that band?

Johnny and Donnie have done two albums together already. This isn't the first. I have one of them they did after the Skynyrd Twenty album which I happened to like alot. The post-humous duet he does with Ronnie was cool. I saw it on VH1 back then. Same concept as Natalie Cole doing "Unforgettable" with her pop a decade or more ago.
I believe the album I have is called "Brother to Brother". I'd have to dig through my cases to find it. I haven't listened to it since 99 or so.
