Proposed deal raises concerns about Israeli strike on Iran
Updated: 7:44 p.m. ET April 26, 2005WASHINGTON - The Pentagon notified Congress on Tuesday of a proposed sale to Israel of 100 guided bunker-busting bombs, a move that analysts said could prompt concerns about a unilateral Israel strike against Iran.

Israel has requested the sale by the Lockheed Martin Corp. of GBU-28s worth as much as $30 million, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a notice required by law for government-to-government military sales.

The GBU-28 was developed for penetrating hardened command centers located deep underground and would be used by the Israeli air force on its U.S.-built F-15 aircraft, the agency said.

Israel dismisses speculation
Israel — believed to be the Middle East’s only nuclear armed state — has denied speculation that it might make a military strike on Iran to prevent it from producing an atomic bomb.

In 1981 Israel sent jets to bomb an Iraqi reactor, driving Saddam Hussein’s quest for a bomb underground and fueling speculation of a similar strike on Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, in a interview with CNN earlier this month, said his country was not planning any military attack on Iran.

Sharon, in a separate interview with Fox News, said: “Of course we take all precautions and all the steps to defend ourselves. But it’s not that Israel should give the answer to the international problem” of Iran potentially developing a bomb.

In January, Vice President Dick Cheney warned Israel could in the future try to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the sale of the GBU-28s would “not affect the basic military balance in the region.”

‘A provocative step’
John Isaacs, president of the Council for a Livable World, said the proposed sale was clearly “a provocative step” that would prompt concerns about a unilateral Israeli strike, particularly in Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East.

“One could be suspicious that these bombs could be used for an Israeli attack on Iran,” Isaacs said, noting that the bunker-busting bombs in question were non-nuclear, which limited their ability to dig far underground.

“This particular munition is designed to destroy deeply buried high-value assets such as command centers or nuclear weapons facilities,” agreed Loren Thompson at the Virginia-based Lexington Institute. “Draw your own conclusions.”

The success of any such strike on possible Iranian nuclear facilities would depend on the quality of intelligence about the location of such facilities, as well as how far underground such sites were buried, Isaacs said.

“It’s not a slam dunk in any way,” he added.

Once notified, Congress has 30 days to reject planned foreign military sales but rarely does so.

Hey, while were at it, let's release Charles Manson from prison, give him a couple sheets of blotter acid and a case of scalpels, and turn him loose on a college campus.

And then we can send some tanker trucks full of fuel oil and fertilizer to the militia fucknuts and convince them that the "Zionist Occupational Government" will prevail if they don't blow up every Federal Building & day care center in the country.

Shit, let's give the Fred Phelps hate cult a bunch of loaded AK-47's and bus them into San Francisco. And then we can send the KKK, armed with gasoline trucks and unlimited board feet of timber into Harlem.

Can anyone else think of any other hateful murderous genocidal bastards that we can help out?

No, Osama actually existed at some point. Though the existence of Al Qaeda as an "international terrorist syndicate" is doubtful, and both he and Zarqawi have become the Emmanuel Goldstein to the BCE/PNAC Big Brother.

[i]Maybe our Israeli friends will sell them to China.:)

China issue undermines US-Israeli defence ties
Tensions between the US and Israel over Israeli defence exports to China remain unresolved, despite recent visits by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz to Washington.

Israel has nukes. Who cares about bunker busters? We found ours don't work anyways. Our latest and greatest bunker busters never penetrated Saddam's bunker. It's still pristine down there.

I wouldn't underestimate the Israelis. They build some good shit on their own. They don't need to buy from us, because they have the people who can develope and build it.

The way I see it, if you can deliver a nuclear bomb, then anything less is really not worrying about. Sure, a rogue state can blow a nuke in the US but we don't have nieghbors who can immediately invade us. In Israel, they do. It'a all about survival to them and they take it seriouse. They know the cost of doing something stupid. Israel won't do anything unless it's neccessary for their survival.

The rest of the world is modernizing. Not only does that put a strain on the world's resources, it means more developing countries have weapons that only a handful of countries use to have.

History has always showed if someone want's something bad enough, they will get it. Joseph Stalin was a good example of this.

In the nuclear age, you keep your enemy at bay by having a better first strike capability than they do. At least that worked in the cold war who we knew who our enemies were.

There is no easy answer. If someone is nuts enough to use some of these weapons they are going to use them. A kamakazi with a nuke is a chilling reality.

The one thing for sure is your life is preciouse and it's going to end. Maybe from some drunk asshole in a car hits you or a nuclear bomb. Who knows. The world has always been a dangerouse place. In the Roman Empire the average life expenctancy of a male was 24 years. Today it's 78 years. We have more years on average. All I can say is don't waste them.

The Patriot Act gives the president enough executive power to nullify all our Constitutional rights immediately. When you have guys like General Franks calling democracy and interesteing experiment and flat out says the United States will be ran by the military if a major chemical or nuclear attack happens, then you know some of the the people in the Dept of Defense and Govt. actually are hoping we do get attacked again. Why? So they can grab power.

Going into Iraq was all about a few people using the excuse of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction to empower and enrich themselves. They miscalculated the opposition and the insurgency problems. The Haliburton oil grab didn't quite work out as planned but shit, who cares, it's not their money or lives at stake is it?

The only way we could be China in a land war is to use nukes. Large wars are expensive and because of our huge trade deficite with countries like China, we have less and less money in the country to finance huge wars.

China is temorarily keeping us afloat until they steal enough of our technology and ruin our capacity to produce, so they can call the shots.

You don't make shit without manufacturing and you can't keep your war machine going without it. We have lost that in droves.

As more time goes by and business as usual continues, we might no be able to really do shit for Taiwan. I think the cost will be too high and we will just let China take it.

I don't know about that. Right now we could not 'conquer' China unless we had a significant build up of weapons and manpower.

But our weapons and communications systems trounce the Chineses'. The US could give China a significant bloody nose and probably wipe out her navy and airforce.

Ten or 20 years down the road, alll bets are off.
