    The Pretenders

Got into the first 3 albums, lost interest when '86s "Get Close" came out. "My baby and me" was too mellow for old school Pretenders Fans.

What do these extended versions sound like?

    hey...just caught this...

The album I had called "Extended play" got more play than any of my other albums (besides VH) mostly for the version of Precious. It is a great live version and Chrissie sounds mint, she's got a killer attitude on it. The rest of the album is great too. I have not yet been able to find it on CD. I had it on vinyl and cassette. I do a lot of "used music shopping" and haven't found it. I am going to have to poke around on line.

I am not really into a lot of the songs that made them successful commercially. I like their oldest stuff.

I love the tune "Bad Boys get spanked"

I'm not all that keen on Chrissie's political views but man can she rock, or what?

Exactly. Chrissie should have dropped the "Pretenders" name after the third album. At least that one still sounded like the Pretenders, even though it was recorded after half the band was dead. Chrissie Hynde is talented enough to make it as a solo artist, and that's the name that should have been used on the poppy "My Baby"/"Don't Get Me Wrong" type of stuff.

Pretenders with Hynde, Pete F, Martin Chambers and James Honeyman-Scott totally fucking rocked.

After James died, not so much. Learning To Crawl was decent enough, I suppose, if only because Robbie was doing his best Honeyman impression/trying to recreate the style.

I'm fond of Chrissie Hynde's voice. She could ask me whatever she likes...

I dig many Pretenders tunes. There's one particular song on "Viva el amor!" that's still sticking on my mind 4 years after, with Jeff Beck playing an amazing solo on it, called "Legalise me". Jeff just wound up in the studio, on Chrissie's invitation, and did only one take, the one that's on the record... and he left as quick as he'd come in!

            Re: Re: The Pretenders

The thing about Chrissie is that she looks SO MUCH like Christine Amphlett of the Divinyls.
I had a D CD over once and when I played it, someone asked why it wasn't Pretenders music.
Both look alike and have the feminine name of Chris.

Never thought about it, but yeah they do look alike and both have sexy voices, IMO.

I have the "big huge hit" self titled album they did in 1990 or whenever it was. Haven't listened to it in years. Let's just say there's a lot of memories tied up in that album. Mostly good ones though.

Of course most people thought that was the first Divinyls album, which of course it wasn't. I remember hearing their stuff in the early 80's on the "new wave" radio station. INXS was a big hit then, so they thought they would try another Aussie band.

                    Divinyls Rocked..

Well worth checking out. I was dissapointed in the "Essentials" album,
it was one of those greatest hits albums that should have had another
six songs on it at least.
