Robbie 'is best solo live act ever' (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1409967.html?menu=)
Robbie Williams has beaten the likes of Elton John, Madonna, David Bowie and Elvis Presley to the title of Best Live Solo Artist of All Time.

Rockers U2 were named Best Live Band of All Time in The Carling Music Survey.

They were followed by a host of British bands, like Queen in second place, Oasis (3rd), the Rolling Stones (4th), and Radiohead (5th).

Former Take That star Williams beat legends like Bowie into second place, followed by Morrissey, Presley, Elton John and Jimi Hendrix.

Paul Weller came seventh, beating Madonna (8th), Michael Jackson (9th) and Bob Dylan (10th).

The top ten list of best live bands also includes The Who (6th), followed by Guns n' Roses, Coldplay, Faithless and REM.

The Stone Roses album of the same name has been voted the Best Album of All Time, followed by Nirvana's Nevermind, and Oasis's Definitely Maybe.

Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit is the Best Single of All Time, followed by John Lennon's Imagine and Joy Division's Love will Tear Us Apart.

The survey of 5,000 people nationwide was Commissioned by Carling to celebrate Britain's live music scene.

Carling spokesman Martin Coyle said: "Rock clearly wins out in the Best Live Band of All-Time category which is mostly made up of great British bands like Queen, Radiohead and Coldplay."

You know I'd probably have to agree with you. He knows how to work an audience.

definitaly...and he knows how to change the moods...he turns a 150.000 people audience into a saloon when he sings the "swing"-stuff...and the moment when he makes everybody flash their cameras "on three" is funny! I've seen the "big ones" dave, mercury, jagger live and that fucker IS good...

I haven't seen him live on TV or for real, so can't really say anything about this yet.

I don't really like his songs anyway.

Yea, I read this as well.

I don't really care for his music as such, but I do rank him above others hitting the number one spot these days, and I admire him for what he has achieved. I watched a concert that was shown live from knebworth (they showed uncut beginning about an hour after it started), which meant that there could be no editing and shit either. You know what? A great show. He knows how to entertain people.

As for the bands, I would put Queen ahead of U2 for great live acts, though, although U2 are a good live band.

And I wouldn't put Nirvana in the top 10 of ANYTHING. Excluding Most Overrated pieces of shit of all time, where they would top the list.

and what followed is over 10 years of shitty indie, nu-metal, emo and screamo bands...just because of Nirvana!!!

I still like Nevermind!

I do think that Nevermind has a couple of good tracks. I just hate them because I think they are overrated.

Do you really think they would be thought of as so inspirational if Cobain didn't top himself?

I don't think so. They wouldn't have got much further, even if he didn't shoot himself.

Exactly, because there is one member that people knew the name of. Look at the bands that have lasted...

Queen-Brian May is as instantly recogniseble as Freddie Mercury
AC/DC-Ditto for Brian, Malcom, and Angus
EVERYONE knows the 4 Beatles
Rolling Stones-Mick Jagger/Keith Richards/Ron Wood
Status Quo-Parfitt/Rossi
Van Halen-EVH/DLR
Yes-Jon Anderson/Rick Wakeman/Steve Howe
Led Zep-Plant/Page
Purple-Gilan/Blackmore
Metallica-Lars/James
The list is endless.

The only reason people know Dave Grohl's name these days is because of the Foo Fighters. Most people don't even know that he was in Nirvana. If you want your band to last, people have to know a number of members.

Are you saying Dave Grohl is a member?

How very, very rude!
