    DLR/VH Tablature

    Some of you might or might not be aware that there is such a thing as "Code" tabs, that translates anything from standard text, to text editing format. For example, a blank tab:

    That being said, I want to encourage the aid of tabs in the forums, from our newbie beginners, and advanced players to use this to help any questions to...oh, I dunno...answer hardest EVH/SV move, or, you just haven't figured out something, and/or need a little help.

          Ok, here's some of what I can come up with. It's not 100% correct, on the spot, note for note correct, but, I'd like to think it's at least 80% correct, just the jist of it, you get the idea sort of thing.

          First off, The guitar is Down Tunned, I labeled each part of the tab with down tunning for reference. If you're playing with standard tunning, either down tune, or minus 1 from each numerical value on the tab to play in standard.

          The song is based all around the Eb Major scale..really, you can just improvise here and there, that's what is doing anyway.

          Anyway here is the song.

          It's pretty strait foward, to add a little spice, Mike tends to play some open notes here and there than swith back to the Bb...

          After the second time, after that little intro, he does these little fills, that are nothing major, just working both the low and high ends of the Eb Major scale.

          This is what starts off ever verse and ends it, the guitar does similar stuff, only, Ed hits a few more hammer on's...

          This is simple shit. Again, you can improvise, and add a few more things from the scale to spice it up a notch, you will hear some little pull offs and hammer ons, and tiny little varations here and there, but this is basically it.

          Again, nothing fancy, just some F and C bass notes. Simple Accopaniement.

          Chorus: "On Fire"

          Eb|--------------------------|
          This is mostly just hammer ons from Db to Eb, though, pay special note to the vibrato at the end of the little riff here, it's what's used to give it that little extra....umph!!!

          This is the coolest part of the song, and it's also the hardest to play. But it's not hard to get down. Mike and Eddie both play this lick simotanouely, and mike continues to play it under the Guitar solo.

          That's about it really. Just toss in some other hammer ons, and work your way around the scale, and you'll nail this song.

                        There are, but if somebody finds it, it's better to be posted here.

                        Powertabs, Guitartab, ulitmateguitar, aztabs, etc, all have spyware problems. Besides, most tabs submitted aren't always correct, at least here it could be in check by fans.

                        Plus, the problem was that he couldn't find a tab for on fire, mostly because no body ever tabbed it out.

                        Much like most things in the internet, It's usually one source that get's pimped and shrewed all over the internet.

                          Guitar World And Guitar One rarely ever have tabs for Van Halen.
                          As for tab books, those usually don't cover everything you want. Most tab books come in "greatest hits" or "Albulm" songs...It's usually a pain in the ass to want to learn to play, maybe one song, and have to pay to learn how to play 12 or more.

                          Plus, tabs are all over the internet. Some people buy these books and put the tabs on the web anyway. Guitarworld constantly get's ripped off, with their tabs wondering around the internet.

                              And I agree, there is Tab EVERYwhere on the net. Some is of a dubious quality, some is very good.

                              Sometimes its better to start with tab and then figure out what you think sounds right. A very useful tool when learning a song.

                              Sometimes, figuring out a song by ear is best. It forces you to use your"ears" and will help you tremendously in the long run!
