ULI JON ROTH To Perform With SCORPIONS For First Time In 27 Years

The following message has been posted on legendary guitarist Uli Jon Roth's (ex-SCORPIONS) official web site:

"The American tour and Sky Academy have been put back until the beginning of 2006. Uli Jon Roth will first play some shows in Europe instead.

"The first of these is going to be in Colmar, France (September 10) at an open-air arena, where Uli is going to be on the same bill as his former band, SCORPIONS, and one other group (to be announced). Uli will later join the band during their set and they will perform a couple of SCORPIONS classics together, dating from the period when Uli was still a member of the group.

"This will be a somewhat historic and nostalgic occasion for a lot of fans from the past, who have never had the chance to see Uli with the SCORPIONS, because this is going to be their first joint appearance since the recording of 'Tokyo Tapes' in 1978.

"On the following day, Uli Jon Roth will headline the Guitarfest 2005 in Birmingham, England. The venue is still to be announced.

    Good news, thanks!
I have all the Scorpions' albums featuring Uli Roth. I still dig them a lot.
I once said on this board that as far a sound and phrasing, EVH must have inspired at least a little from Uli's...
I still think that the solos of "Speedy's coming", "Dark lady", "Robot man", "In trance", "Top of the bill", "Catch your train" or "Pictured life" (1974-76) must have run through young Eddie's ears at the time.

Rudi said that EVH was a huge fan of The Scorpions, and, once when they were billed together, was asking all sorts of questions about Uli. So, yes, I'll go along with that.

Thanks chaps! I wondered if I was the only one who had noticed...

He's been with another band called...I forget...Electric Something (somebody finish that). He hasn't been doing nothing for 30-odd years. Actually, a couple of years ago he toured the UK with Michael Schenker and Glenn Hughes.

I always thought Uli was so much better than Matias Jabs.

Uli was (is) a great player!

                    No, that's Michael Schenker.

Electric Sun was it? It was something like that, much more Hendrixy than The Scorps.

Uli plays rings around Matthias Jabs. Not that Jabs is a slouch by a long shot. I like em both but Jabs never touched material like Sails of Charon. The dude blends technique and feel like no other. Scorps made incredible music.

It would be fucking great to hear anything from "Virgin Killer" live.
