David Lee Roth Van Halen Tribute CD...

If you we were putting together a Tribute album to the Diamond One, who would you choose to perform what songs?
Let's keep this semi-modern and only include rock bands from the mid 90's though today. Bands that are still around.

Both David Lee Roth and VH through 1984 are fair game.

For example... I think Chris Cornell/Audioslave could probably do a great cover of "On Fire".

This could be fun...

There have actually been quite a few interesting Van Halen tribute albums...I have three of them ("Eruption", "Everybody Wants Some" and "Little Guitars").

Dude!! 4 Non Blondes BUTCHERED that song! I'm not going to slam you for having your own opinion, but those bitches tarnished that song by trying to play it, in my mind.

Which is good!

I, for one, am SO SICK of tribute albums being put together on weekends off by artists who play the song EXACTLY THE SAME WAY as it originally sounded. It is pointless and a complete waste of time.

This is why I prefer "Eruption" and "Everybody Wants Some" - things are fucked up and changed dramatically. I like seeing how a band, with it's own style and tastes, interprets the music with their own sensibilities and does it in their own fashion. It is, for me, MUCH more fun than hearing somebody go through the song and redo it exactly as it was originally (Cathedral covering Black Sabbath? What's the point?).

Some bands shoould never be covered: ZEP, VAN HALEN, STONES, BEATLES, SABBATH, METALLICA..........

Just my opinion....some bands just get it right the first time.

I agree, I don't want to hear the songs exactly as they are. They're already amazing. I want to hear other famous rock bands rendition of the tunes.

Obviously VH has been a huge influence to so many of us.

Greenday performing Atomic Punk (note the irony, though they don't really do punk music anymore)

Alice In Chains - Mean street in their sick harmonies (hey, we're dreaming right?)

Black Crowes - Tobacco Road (Kid Rock could do a redneck version of this too).

311 - Black Sand

Train - Big Trouble

Michael Jackson - A little (boy) ain't enough for me. or - And The Cradle Will Rock (heh).

I want to record Showtime.

Melissa Ethridge - Beautiful Girls

Rob Zombie - Runnin With The Devil

I'll wait - Nickelback

Santana - Spanish Fly

ACDC - Women In Love
