Sheep. People who climbed aboard when Spammy joined. Then there are those who were able to tune out Spammy and listen to the instruments...Personally I cannot do that. There were moments on some of the 5150 material that sound really good, until Spambo kicks in and then it just becomes another sucky Van Hagar song.

Personally I feel the reason they sold more were because of the fucking ballads. They had more female listeners because A lot of the music became more poppy (example: Love walks in , Feels so good)I also feel that (unfortunatly) there were a lot of Sammy (solo) fans that followed his gay career until he stepped in shit with VH. Also,we all know that anything RADIO FRIENDLY rules the airwaves...look at the shit out there today that is crap but for some reason selling millions of records. Sad huh?

I think it was a whole bunch of people who refused to say goodbye to the mighty VH. Granted the van hagar stuff fails in comparison to CVH. However, music changed and fans of rock accepted less agressive music then earlier stuff. This is very apparent with later Crue and even Metallica stuff. If VH would have started in the 60's and Sammy came in the band in the 70's and played that type of music, that would have ended VH.

I bought the first 3 albums w/ Sam as I was growing up.

            I don't know why....

But they did serve a purpose...because every time a new one came out, I would buy, then listen, and realise that I hadn't pulled out the Fair Warning (or any other) album in awhile...

As great as the original VH was....an album with the VH name on it had credibility I guess. But those aren't the albums I EVER listen to.

As an adult, who digs any kind of heartfelt SOUL music, the first six are the only ones that matters anymore.

If Sam did something cool...I would be the first to stand up and say "thats cool"...

...but as of now, he has yet to do so.

The CVH albums stand up to time, you can get older and wiser WITH them.

The rest is like teenie bopper music.

culture club were way better than van hagar tho.

I mean Boy George was properly gay,as opposed to just being gay as in bad.

And don't forget, every van hagar album sold less that it's predesessor. Van Halen went from selling 10 million albums (1984) to 3 million (Balance). Still a lot of albums, but how can anyone look at dwindling albums sales as a success?

Millions of people still wanted to believe in Eddie and stay loyal to him...and they were able to overlook that douchebag Hagar.
