Electric Wizard. Without ANY doubt the heaviest band making music today...sheer, unadulterated, pure doom metal sludge, the pinnacle of the pack of them.

I fancy Kyuss as the heaviest band i like. They weren't heeavy in a Pantera sense or in the vein of Cannibal Corpse, but they played fat and low. Kyuss is by far the heaviest groove to these ears.

Listen to Blues For The Red Sun - you'll see what i mean for sure.

Venom. Loud and heavy and trashy, but still good. To me there's no point being heavy if the music is just noise.

This is interesting...we seemingly all have different definitions of "heavy". I myself would consider "heavy" to be guys like Black Sabbath, Cathedral, Saint Vitus, Sleep, Debris Inc., High On Fire, Orange Goblin, Electric Wizard, Fu Manchu, Kyuss...that sort of thing.

Yet we've also had mentions of Venom, Pantera, Nile (negatively), Lamb of God, Black Flag...seems like we all have different ideas about what "heavy" means.

Has anyone ever heard the Plasmatics' album "New Hope For The Wretched?"

Maybe not the heaviest, but it's pretty fucking heavy....fuck, this is pointless.

Yeah...the heaviest band I like is Pantera.

Everyone else beyond that is just kinda pointless, though they all have their "quailities" good or bad.

Slayer is heavy as fuck, but they are tighter than a gnat's ass when it comes to live performance.

I pretty much overall prefer singers over shouters any day, and the most popular metal bands these days all seem to be pretending they are SO "angry" with a lead shouter who is just up there onstage trying to do a lame imitation of 25 lawnmowers, 30 weed-eaters and 42 leaf-blowers revved up to 15,000 rpm while being crushed in a garbage truck....

                          It is quite stupid really....

But I think Phil actually epitomized what a shouter is supposed to be.

Depends on what you call "heavy". I love some Sabbath, and I would consider them them heaviest band of all time. I have all of Slayer's albums, love their music, and of course Pantera is great. Motorhead is another one of my favs.

I'm not into any of the newer "heavy" bands. The only ones I could say I really like are BLS and Sevendust, but they're not that heavy when compared to Sabbath or Motorhead. Messhuggah is pretty good, and they could be called heavy lol.

                              Budgie and Pantera.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?
