Can It Get Any Worse in Minnesota?

It's official: The Minnesota Vikings are a total disgrace.

The Vikings are the most embarrassing team on and off the field in the National Football League.

And it is only getting worse.

After the bye-week sex-romp at sea, the far-from-focused Vikings got blasted in Chicago 28-3.

That's the 2005 Bears. Not the 1985 Bears.

As 17 different Vikings come under serious fire for their lewd and irresponsible behavior on a boat cruise, it was clear the Minnesota players weren't interested in playing football.

Keith Newman sacked Bears quarterback Kyle Orton, jarred the ball loose, and it was scooped up by EJ Henderson and returned for a touchdown. The play was called back as Kevin Williams jumped offsides. The Vikings offense committed infraction after infraction. After Corey Chavous forced a fumble, the Minnesota offense took the ball down to the 2-yard line, only to have it shoved back after two awful penalties, leaving the Vikings to settle for a field goal (their only points of the game).

In total, Minnesota was flagged 14 times, for 91 yards.

And sadly, Daunte Culpepper, who was reportedly on one of the boats, played another terrible game. Culpepper went 26-of-48, tossing two picks to the highly active and talented Bears defense. What was really stunning about Culpepper's performance was how many open receivers he overshot during the game.

Culpepper has thrown more picks already this year than the entire 2004 campaign.

    It was truly gruesome.

The Vikings had also a field goal blocked.

The horribly coached Teddy Cottrell defense got sliced up by the legendary Orton and a banged-up Thomas Jones.

    Ineptness did not discriminate.

It's really startling to think of where the Vikings are right now.

This is a team that seemingly every "expert" had penned into the postseason. The only question was: Would they lose in the first round, or make it all the way to Detroit for the Super Bowl.

The 1-4 Vikings have talent, even without Randy Moss and star center, and team leader, Matt Birk.

Mike Tice and Cottrell have run this team into the ground.

And they have to be held accountable.

I don't care if it is assistants Steve Loney, Jerry Rhome, or even Jim Rome. This team is screaming for new leaders.

And that brings us to the sex fest on a couple of boats on Lake Minnetonka.

According to reports, Fred Smoot was responsible for getting the guys and the girls together for the wild orgy. Smoot is usually one of the most affable players in the league. Apparently, he was walking around the Vikings complex in a fog this week.

How were he and his teammates going to be ready for their first game within the NFC North?

Was the usually out-of-it Tice going to get them focused? Please.

Based on Sunday's performance, obviously not.

New owner Zygi Wilf cannot stand pat. Cut a player. Fire a coach. Do something. Throw someone overboard.

NFL commish Paul Tagliabue flew to Chicago to meet with Wilf. Wilf then promptly, and smartly, hired a head of security, which was somehow lacking from the Vikings front office. He also promised to be more hands-on as an owner.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's department continues to investigate issues of prostitution, public drunkenness, public sex acts, among others. This can only get uglier by the day.

Wilf has a lot at stake. In September, the Vikings asked the Minnesota legislature to build a $675 million stadium and spend $115 million on new roads leading to it. That can't sit well with the voters who had to step over Vikings players having relations with women out in the open on the boats..

Wilf has to do something. The league is embarrassed. The fans are embarrassed. I cannot tell you how many Vikings fans who call me on my radio show are totally disgusted with how their team is behaving, and playing.

What's additionally pathetic is the Vikings, somehow, could actually still make the playoffs. Chicago and Detroit lead the division at 2-3.

But Minnesota isn't going anywhere with the current coaching staff, unless it's deeper into the depths of despair.

It's not as if Tice was running a tight ship before the Vikings players got aboard theirs.

Tice is going to get fired at the end of the season anyway. Cottrell is a goner. And it might not be the worst idea to pull the plug right now, despite Wilf's claims that there won't be any immediate changes.

    This team is totally lost.

Glad I'm a Patriots fan! Fuck the Vikings getting a stadium, the Twins need a fookin stadium, the metrodome is already a football stadium, the reason the Twins have a low payroll is because they have to pay off so much to use the metrodome. But what does the government do? Try to get the GOPHERS a stadium. Cmon, construction prices are going up, the cost of the stadium will double if they dont start soon. And if they don't get a new one, there is no way the Twins will stay in Minnesota.

What's wrong with Sex parties?? People are making too big of a deal about it here in Minneapolis. This stuff happens at all stag parties..all the time. I'm soo tired of this city too, most people in Minneapolis and the western cities outside Minneapolis have a shit load of money and all they do is bitch about a small tax to build a football & Baseball stadium. Bastards!
