ROOT DOWN is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Any other fans?

I agree about PAUL'S BOUTIQUE. It's amazing. LOOKIN' DOWN THE BARREL OF A GUN (I was blaring this driving home today).
The new album is okay...but not great. I was kinda disappointed because it wasn't all that creative, sound-wise. I think they really broadened things more on CHECK YOUR HEAD, ILL COMMUNICATION and HELLO NASTY.

What do you expect from these guys.... they gotta be close to 40!
I actually heard the new RUN DMC on the radio yesterday.... it's actually just REV RUN solo... but the song kicks ass.... like old school RUN DMC... it's called, "Mind On The Road" and it samples JOAN JETT'S "I love rock n' roll" !
I gotta download that. Some of those old-school rap bands were hardcore.
You're right...these guys are pushing 40. But I still hope they got some more hardcore funk in 'em. Some of the stuff off HELLO NASTY even is beyond groundbreaking.
Did you ever hear the music of a chick called PRINCESS SUPERSTAR?

I own all their albums...I'm a huge fan...I haven't listened to them that much lately, though, but I did enjoy their last album...back to basics, etc.
Yeah, Check your head is probably my favorite album (Gratitude, Finger Lickin' Good, So What'cha Want) along with Hello Nasty and Ill Communication. They're really creative geniuses...I'd really rank them up there with Beck, when it comes to creativity, humour and song-writing...oh they've got the skill and they've got the rhytm...
And yesss, they've made some of the best videos ever, SABOTAGE being a top10 music video, ever.

Btw, some of the rarities on the compilation were funny as hell...BENNY AND THE JETS...fuckin' priceless...I also enjoyed the two new songs very, very much...especially TWENTY QUESTIONS...very sophisticated, very cool...
" Is the cup half empty, or is the cup half full?
Does the sun rise at dawn, or does the earth just spin along?
Or is it all perspective on how we see the world?
How many countless life forms are on a little ball that twirls?
Are we intrinsically separate beings?
Or could we possibly be parts of the same thing?
Water feeds the plants and the sunshine makes them grow,
So how can anyone be an island on their own?
Does life make me happy, or does it bring me down?
Do I have what I need, or do I just want what's around?
Am I seeing truth, or do I just see wool?
Well is the cup half empty, or is the cup half full?"

I'll always like the BEASTIES cause I grew up with them. LICENCE TO ILL was an cassette I actuallu got out of a grab bag at a friends birthday party when I was 11!! From the opening scratch on RHYMIN" AND STEALIN" I was hooked. PAUL'S BOUTIQUE is stellar. It's a masterpiece that was considered shit back in 88'. Now? Forget it...everyone owns it. I cant tell you how many times that has been played at my place when I used to throw house parties. (Man I miss those days! ) I stopped collecting there stuff after the double greatest hits cd's. There will always be a place in my heart for the three Jewish kids from brooklyn...The King Ad Rock, MCA, And Mike D. Rock on brothers.

Can't pay/say enough compliments about Beastie Boys.
Back in 1987, I remember hearing/seeing the vid for 'Fight For Your Right' and immediately went out and bought 'Licenced To Ill'...and to date, it stands as one of the all-time classic albums I own.
Licence to Ill is really the only one that gets a regular play at my place, even though I have all the albums. That one had nothing but good songs. They were claver, catchy, funny. Since then, they became the "serious" Beastie Boys, and I think got too caught up in being avant-garde hip hop-ers. Paul's Boutique was quite creative, but like the albums that followed it, never got to me the way Licence To Ill did. "She's Crafty" gets me going every time.
