Daves voice vs Sammy and age

Why is it that Sammys voice has held up better over time than Daves? Dave sings in a low baritone and rarely puts alot of pressure on it with this style. Other than his "Wows!" he never really hit alot of high notes.

Sammy on the other hand is a screecher. He puts alot of wear and tear on that big mouth and vocal cords with his screaming/singing.

But the bottom line is that Daves voice is SHOT. I went to the Dave and Sam tour and thank God Dave has such a great band to help carry him at this point. His voice is gone.

Sammy on the other hand with all his drinking and screaming and poor physical condition still has retained his style.

Dave is a physical animal and well conditioned. Is it his lifestyle? Booze? Why is his voice which doesnt rely on hittting high notes, shot?
