Grand jury indicts prominent GOP contributor in Ohio

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A coin dealer and major GOP donor at the center of a scandal in Ohio state government has been indicted in a federal investigation into contributions to President Bush's re-election campaign, his attorney said Thursday.

Tom Noe, shown here in 2001, has been charged with skirting campaign fnance laws.

The grand jury was examining whether Tom Noe skirted campaign finance laws by having others donate money for him. Federal laws limit individual contributions to $2,000.

Noe's lawyer, Jon Richardson, said he did not have any immediate details on the indictment. The charges were to be announced later in the day by the FBI and the Justice Department, and federal prosecutors would not comment before then.

Noe is also under investigation over an ill-fated $50 million investment in rare coins he managed for the state workers' compensation fund. Noe has acknowledged that up to $13 million is missing, and Ohio's attorney general has accused him of stealing as much as $6 million.

The coin dealer contributed more than $105,000 to Republicans, including Bush and Gov. Bob Taft, during the last campaign.

The Republican National Committee announced in June that Bush was returning $4,000 in campaign contributions from Noe.

An investigation into Noe's coin investments led to the governor's conviction in August on charges he failed to report golf outings and other gifts.

INDICTMENTS EXPECTED FRIDAY

By Adam Entous
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - With the fate of at least two top White House advisers hanging in the balance, special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald conferred on Thursday with his legal team a day before he was expected to announce his decision on charges over the outing of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame.

Friday's expected indictments in the case could trigger an immediate shake-up at the White House, already on the defensive over plummeting poll figures, soaring gas prices, opposition to the Iraq war and the withdrawal of President George W. Bush's nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, Harriet Miers.

Fitzgerald has zeroed in on Lewis Libby, chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney, and Karl Rove, Bush's top political adviser. Other current and former administration officials may also face charges.

gee! Maybe it'll be someone conservative! Then they can censor anything the fucking Christian Coalition doesn't approve of, press the immoral war against pot to new extremes, and let gw&friends trash the constitution even more!

Maybe they can contribute even more to poverty and overcrowding by overturning RvW!

That'd be great!

Actually, if people would take personal responsibility and use birth control, we wouldn't need Roe vs. Wade for population control.

The least educated people are the poorest (or should be, Paris Hilton & Co. not withstanding) and least capable of properly raising children. The child is the one who suffers. The child and then society.

This anti-abortion bullshit is just people ignoring reality. Like most of the times religion enters politics.

Yeah, religious people are all about saving lives. Unless it involves blowng the shit out of brown people for profits. Then it's all good.

For real, so far only DeLay has been indicted and charged, and Libby looks to be the only one who will be added to that list.

Sorry to say it, but it seems Bush will make it through pretty much unscathed.
That's how it seems this morning anyway.

DeLay's indictments are for a totally different matter. He's not suspected in Treasongate, that I know of. Though his buddy Jack Abrahamoff is tied to the Likudist PNAC bastards who ARE behind Treasongate (Libby being only one of them)

And we still have Bill Frist and his insider stock trading to deal with.....

You don't even have to go back ten years for a load of indictments.
