    Duran Duran

I might get flamed for this, but I think Simon Lebon is one of the top ten frontmen of all time.

    The music was fun.
You can sit on the beach drinkin' a beer and listen to RIO over and over again!
I remember watchin' Hungry like the wolf, as he crawled through the jungle and made out with some hot ass SADE lookin' black chick... and I was like... SIMON IS SO FUCKIN' KEWL!!!
Yeah the dude wore a little bit of make-up...but look how much pussy he got!!!
Or what about the video for RIO where the Taylor Brothers and Simon are sittin' on the boat... wearin' some cheesy white jackets and pink aligator shirts... all the girls wanted to fuck him.... even the faggit Nick Rhodes was gettin' POONTANG!!!

    Anyone else LIKEY?

I think I bought their greatest hits years ago in one of those buy two, get 11 free, BMG CD mail order deals...

I don't listen often, but despite detesting them in the 80's, they're okay for disposible pop...

Simon had so much charisma in his voice.
        And stage presence!
And I strongly suggest everyone watch the UNEDITED softcore PORN video for,"GIRLS ON FILM" at rollingstone.com
It kicks ass... maybe the best 80's video ever!!!

I think "Girls on Film" is actually a great rock song...

The problem with Duran DURAN is that I'm always saying, "geez, that song could have been better with a few more powerchords and a more technically proficient guitar solo."

              Worst of all... It's true..

                They were okay.

Little girls went crazy over them, but would be hard pressed to see the Beatles comparisons, beyond the fact that they were labelled the Fab Five (as opposed to Fab Four).

Had no more use for them after Seven and the Ragged Tiger came out, but at least they threw some melodies into their pop songs (unlike countless top 40 sensations of today).

PowerStation was the best thing to come out of Duran Duran, IMO.

Okay, they used to have the full length video... I guess they extracted it.

Yeah, for sure..there are no other bands even comparable to the Beatles..

I think that Duran Duran is a pretty talented bad (As its been mentioned Powerstation was a pretty good band to come out of Duran Duran)It was like..yup,we can rock out if we need to.

I still think that John Taylor is an awesome bassist.(even though he had the gheyest mullet ever)

I feel gay for just reading this thread....

I also agree that Power Station was great! That album was very good.

Duran Duran, however, I thought sucked balls. Long after their prime, they made an album of covers, and I saw them on tv playing "Hungry Like the Wolf", but a really rock version. That was the only time DD didn't make me ill.

No way, ain't no how, so sorry, gotz ta disagreez wit yuzz....

                            A) Duran Duran were never the Beatles - 80's or otherwise - and the only thing they had in common was the women screaming at their concerts - that's it.

                            B) No. Simon LeBon would not be considered a frontman. Since The Diamond One wrote the book on being a frontman, compare the two and see what you come up with. Also, compare with other frontmen: Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury, Bon Scott, Brian Johnson, Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant. Defense rests, no further questions.

                            C) The only good thing that came from Duran Duran was Andy Taylor, and maybe that bassist guy sumthin-whatever Taylor. Both did MUCH better work with The Powerstation with Robert Palmer (RIP). And if you're still interested, check out Andy Taylor's solo album 'Thunder'. It's amazing, IMO, and again, much better than anything he co-wrote w/Duran Duran.
