i hear Pinnacle is good, never used it though. i started out with Ulead Video Studio and now use Sony Vegas and DVD Architect. Sonic was Roxio and i try to stay away from them but i think they may be getting better.
if you're going to get a capture device i'd have to recommend one that uses Firewire. i wasn't happy with any of the USB2 boxes i've tried.

A few people have recommended Pinnacle, but i am just getting started in this.
for windows: Use nero.
for linux: use k3b.
to "obtain" nero:
Start>Run> cmd.exe
Type this:
1. ftp
2: o
3: ftp.nero.com
4: anonymous
5: fuckyou@aol.com
6. binary
7. get
8. Nero-6.6.0.18.exe
9. Nero.exe
10. Wait for it to finish downloading!
11. open C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Nero.exe
12. google Nero 6 serial and find one (if you cant i will pm one to you)
on a unix machine, everything is the same except 11.... if you need help for that let me know.
I may as well be sleeping in Spanish class guys, that shit flew over my head.
I got Sonic for free so it fit the bill for now, but i'm taking notes and thanks for the advice.
As for a capture device, would a TV card do the trick or is that something totally different?
