Rock Hall of Fame Announces Inductees

2 hours, 5 minutes ago

Black Sabbath, Miles Davis and the Sex Pistols are among five musical legends to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its induction ceremony March 13 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan, the organization announced Monday.

Also to be inducted into the class of 2006: 1980s New Wave band Blondie and Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, who founded A&M records in 1962, will receive a lifetime achievement award in the non-performer category.

Inductees into the side-men category will be announced at a later date.

Musicians, industry professionals and journalists vote on the nominations. Artists are eligible to be inducted into the Rock Hall after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released.

Sabbath- YES

I think they occasionally vote someone like Davis in because of his influence on other musicians. Jimi Hendrix & Prince, just to name two examples of previous inductees, were not only influenced by Miles, but rumored to have recorded tracks with him. Both bootlegs are supposedly around, but I haven't heard them.

Hmmmmm, Would love to hear the Hendrix boot. I'm looking it up right now and it says that Hendrix and him were huge fans of each other. If anyone has the boot I Would love to hear it.

So where the fuck is Alice Cooper (the band) at?

Rikk

About time for all five fucking acts. That brings their stock up in spades. This is the first time in years I remember fully respecting every act that's inducted.

Maybe they've been realizing that nominating the O'JAYS but not LYNYRD fucking SKYNYRD looks really bad...

And don't knock BLONDIE. Great band...lots of awesome songs.

SEX PISTOLS...one of the best bands ever. NMTB is still one of the best rock 'n' roll albums ever recorded.

SKYNYRD...my favorite band. Van Zant was a genius.

MILES DAVIS...a huge rock 'n' roll influence and he dabbled in it himself. He deserves it for all the fusion shit and experiments of the 70s.

BLACK SABBATH...this doesn't even need an explanation. They virtually invented heavy riff rock by stripping down the Zeppelin formula to its barest essentials.

You couldn't get a much different variety of Artists this year. Gotta hand it to them. I mean you have the Pioneers of Heavy Metal in Sabbath. The Ultimate Punk Band in The Sex Pistols. The Ultimate Southern Rock Band in Skynryd (FREEEEBIRRRRDDDD!!!!!!!). One of the Best New Wave bands in Blondie, and Finally Miles Davis who inspired quite a few Rock groups. This is one time they got it right, Now if they can learn to do it this way more often. I want to see:
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Alice Cooper
KISS
Fleetwood Mac (Are They In Yet?)
CVH
get in '07.

FORD
11-28-2005, 07:05 PM
Fleetwood Mac was inducted in 1998.

I agree on Alice Cooper though. And Van HALEN (not van Hagar) for next year. Stevie Ray will get in eventually, but i'm not sure he's going to get in on his first year of eligibility, given recent trends.

Rikk
11-28-2005, 07:16 PM
STEVIE RAY will get in on his first year because he's got an air of "respectability" about him and is a martyr.

As for ALICE COOPER (and KISS), another fucking blasphemy. AC is one of the most influential artists of the 1970s...stage-wise and song-wise.

I'm more fuckin' stoked to see Blondie on that list than any of the others. They've always been one of my all-time favorite bands. Their musicianship has always been highly underrated as well. Their drummer Clem Burke is beyond stellar. Chris Stein is no fuckin' slouch on the axe either. One of my old bands used to play a Halenized version of "Will Anything Happen" and you'd never guess that it was a Blondie song if not for Debbie's voice. It rocks hard. I've seen more recent live shows too and they still kick it at this age.

In their prime they were fuckin' beyond stellar. They had the whole package. They were unique and couldn't be lumped into one specific type of music. They were a melting pot from that '70's CBGB's New York sound.

And Deb, not only did she have the voice, stage presence and the 'tude but she was smokin' hot.

Grrrrrr...........

People comment on how old she looks now, but they forget that she was already in her 30s when BLONDIE was at their peak. She was actually a child of the 60s.

Smokin' hot she was.

PARALLEL LINES is a perfect album from beginning to end.

This is a pic of her from last year's European Tour.

She looks like a million bucks and she was 59 years old when this was snapped. Although her voice is now a bit lower, she still has a killer set of pipes as well.

I wonder if the Sex Pistols will have any words for Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss......

The Pistols signed to A&M records in 1977 and then went on the Bill Grundy show on BBC, where they delivered a string of obscenities that would make any punk proud. And the host goaded them into it. He kept his job with the BBC, but the Pistols were dropped by A&M the next day......

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/55/God_Save_The_Queen.jpg/270px-God_Save_The_Queen.jpg

Actually, they were on EMI when they appeared on Grundy. That's why they wrote the song EMI: because they were kicked off the label in all the hubbub.

They then signed to A&M a few months later and were kicked off within a week for rambunctious behavior.:p

True 'nuff. That said, Ed King (IMO) is one of the biggest reasons they broke. Van Zant was a genius, and the band was incredible (still my favorite band). But Ed King wrote so many of their early classics, including the music in SWA. It was a shame he left in 1975 (though Steve Gaines was a more than worthy replacement), and it was a big crime that the reformed band chose to make themselves even less genuine a tribute by kicking him out in 1995 because he was awaiting a heart replacement (an operation he thankfully never ended up needing).

If the band is inducted, he'd better be there because he was so important to their success.

Nah, they're generally my overall favorite because of Van Zant's lyrics and the strength of the songs. Of course, these days, I listen to punk and strange rock (VELVET UNDERGROUND) a lot more than normal classic rock. But Skynyrd is really the height for me (the original band).

I'm in the phone booth, it's the one across the hall.
If you don't answer, I'll just ring it off the wall.
I know he's there, but I just had to call.

Don't leave me hanging on the telephone.
Don't leave me hanging on the telephone.

I heard your mother, now she's going out the door.
Well, did she go to work or just go to the store?
All those things she said, I told you to ignore.
Oh, why can't we talk again?
Oh, why can't we
talk again?
Oh, why can't we talk again?

Don't leave me hanging on the telephone.
Don't leave me hanging on the telephone.

It's good to hear your voice, you know it's been so long.
If I don't get your calls then everything goes wrong.
I want to tell you something you've known all along.
Don't leave me hanging on the telephone.

I had to interrupt and stop this conversation.
Your voice across the line gives me a strange sensation.
I'd like to talk when I can show you my affection.
Oh, I can't control myself!
Oh, I can't control myself!
Oh, I can't control myself!
Don't leave me hanging on the telephone.
Hang up and run to me! Oh!
Hang up and run to me! Oh!
Hang up and run to me! Oh!
Hang up and run to me! Oh ooh whoa!
Run to me!

BLACK SABBATH SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN 10 YEARS AGO WHEN THEY FIRST BECAME ELIGIBLE. I AGREE THAT ALICE COOPER AND KISS SHOULD BE IN THERE,BECAUSE AC/DC,AEROSMITH AND QUEEN ARE IN. SO ARE LED ZEPPELIN AND DEEP PURPLE AND THE WHO.IRON MAIDEN IS ELIGIBLE THIS YEAR. JUDAS PRIEST AND THE SCORPIONS HAVE BEEN ELIGIBLE FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. EVEN OZZY IS NOW ELIGIBLE AS A SOLO ARTIST.SAMMY HAS BEE ELIGIBLE WITH MONTROSE AND AS A SOLO ARTIST FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW.CVH BECAME ELIGIBLE IN 2003,SO I THINK WE WILL BE WAITING QUITE A WHILE BEFORE THE HALL GETS THEIR HEAD OUT OF THEIR ASS ENTIRELY.

It was indeed Billy Idol. Soon after that show, Billy would form the band Chelsea and then he and Tony James would leave that band to form Generation X. And Siouxsie would form the Banshees, with her original drummer being none other than John Simon Ritchie, better known as Sid Vicious, seen in the back of this photo

The guitarist in the front of this picture is Marco Pironi, later of Adam & The Ants. So you can trace a lot of punk history to that Bill Grundy show.

From what part of The Mighty Oz do you hail mate? :)

Dunno if they can do it but it would sure be the right thing.

Let's hope Dave's radio show goes off the map and he regains a huge fanbase and media exposure. That will do something to the critics who nominate bands for induction. Think of them getting all nostalgic about his roots and Van Halen and they make a spectacle out of it? :D

Besides, what Van Hagar songs are ever played on the radio anyway?

What's the ratio, ten Dave songs to Hagar's two? lmao
