I don't think in retrospect that CVH had a "bad" album. At the time DJ's "pissed on DD, because there were "too many" cover tunes. It became a call-in debate in 1982, because everyone Loved VH and thought they might be losin' it!
Dancin In the Street, rock's solid, great solo, great rhythm and Roth sounds WAY better than Martha and the Vandellas! Pretty Woman is the "weak one" to these ears, but all in all it has it's place in the CVH Hall of Fame.
For me, its Fair Warning, Van Halen, 1984, WACF, DD and VH2, but anything on these classics beat ANYTHING since or the rip-off 3 tunes from BOBW.
Dancin In the Street was also fabulous on the US Festival with Eddie adding some "wacka-wacka" licks to the opening riff.
Mean Street and Hear About Later are my alltime faves (25 years later) they still set the standard for" Rack and Rawl"!!!
