View Full Version : Defending Roth?

What's there to defend?

He's not the real king of media. He's not a talk radio veteran. He's a Rock And Roll Icon with the gift of gab and a brand new fucking gig.

If anything, the world that's spinning beneath our feet is saturated with MEDIA.....I mean like saturated and jaded.

It's a fucking joke....I've read enough critical diatribes' on this deal to make Jim Goad's proof reader dizzy. Did Howard Stern have to deal with this level of hype and sensationalism when he was trying out the training wheels?

No.

Did Howard Stern's style and schtick that mesmerizes' the millions and millions of lowbrow afficiandos' evolve over the course of two fucking days?

No.

Will Dave Roth be as popular a radio host as Howard Stern?

I don't know.

I know this much:

David Lee Roth was stomping around the whole fucking planet, and OWNING it long before the era of mass media. He has NOTHING to prove to ANYONE.

*NEWS FLASH*

David Lee Roth doesn't give a flying fuck what anyone thinks.....never has. He wouldn't give a flying fuck if Howard Stern signed a contract with No fucking Doubt to be their new front thing. You know, Stern would be stepping into a gig belying his field of expertise!

Would Howard Stern do such a thing....like, as a SERIOUS endeavor?

No.

The parallelium is there folks. Eat it and Fucking Smile.

You're the man Dave. Take that fucking radio show to Vegas and play a Casino.

OOPS!

That might just be on the docket.

No shit!!

Really matters not to me one iota if Roth is a smash, ratings-wise. Personally, I never cared for Stern anyway. Not even way back before he overexposed himself in the mid 1990s. Just never saw the big deal about the dude.

Dave's already been to the top of the hill in terms of media saturation and popularity. Dude has nothing to prove to anyone. If anything, Roth gets my props for doing shit like training to become an EMT and taking on a radio show these days precisely BECAUSE there's nothing left for him to prove. Kinda beats building a little Disneyfied 'rock and roll' club for onesself and licensing your name on various products...

...Fuck, I doubt this radio gig is gonna last long-term, but it would seem to right up Dave's alley. And after being bombarded by local morning show dj's doing half-assed impressions of Don Imus and Howard Stern from coast to coast, it will be refreshing to hear an original personality on the radio again.

OOOO WEEEEE. This is a great couple of IN YOUR FACE paragraphs that I think ROCKS THE NATION. I'd love it, Rustoffa, if you'd send this off to that NO BRAIN IMBUSTLE Journalist who has the odacity (sp?) to put ROTH down like he's suppose to be an experienced Media Person.

These jealous Fcuks will say anything to try to pursuade the masses to side with them.....Ain't gonna happen as long as the ARMY is around.

Dave has already made radio history.
He has plugged into a syndicated situation where he's got 8 to 10 million listeners and he is unproven on radio.
Imagine the countless radio dudes who have been doing talk radio forever and DLR takes the top spot.
7 markets....that's a lot of cheerios.

i do know one thing for certain: since he has started I've heard 2 roth solo songs (cali girls and yankee rose) on the mainstream radio stations. They were the first time I had heard a roth solo song on the radio in such a long time

My dad had a '72 Newhart, it ran like shit so he sold it to a mexican kid across the street, but it was soon destroyed when he ran out of gas at the train crossing just as Amtrak sent one of their death trains through suburban Little Rock.

The little mexican kid died, but in some strange twist of fate... the car ran perfectly afterwards.

The only times I ever watched Stern was when Dave was on there, I saw it once with some chick who had a tampon up her nose, but I don't remember why, if it was to meet Dave, then yeah I get it, but other than that I don't.

For some reason, that reminds me of the the grate Warren Oates. Remember that "Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia" flick? It was this sordid tale of forbidden fruit and likker-fuel'd paid retribution. Pekinpah directed it.

Anyway, there was this one scene where Oates' had woke up after fucking an old girlfriend, he was scratching his crotch and shit. He like dug a crab out, poured likker on his crotch, and slammed the chick out of bed onto the floor.

Now, this is a HUUUGE parallelium. For the mouthbreathing amachoors viewing at home, you'll die trying.

I want to thank Flash Bastard again for bumping this thread.

Gracias!

Stern conducts great celebrity interviews other than that its RETARD RADIO. The way I see it Roth can always pull out the lesbo's and the carnival freaks. Stern will never be as clever and quick on his feet as Diamond. I love the way Dave just walks all over the Stern crank callers.

This is a great thread and it saves me putting one on of my own (as I was just driving home I was thinking bout it).

My piece is as follows: I HAVE RENEWED MY RESPECT FOR DLR. There are ok people, good people and great people in this world. People who challenge themselves and aren't shackled by opinions and the society around them.

He is the Ernest Hemingway of Rock N Roll. There is no port of call or mountain he hasn't gone to, has climbed or has in his sights to do shortly, both literally and figuretivlly (sorry it's late, spelling out the window). Let's review:

Went to the top of the rock n roll mountain before turning 30.

Has been around the world numerous times, professionally and personally.

Has taken on challenges to help the greater good of his fellow Americans, without a telethon or gushing celebs around him, thanking him. He did and does the real deal, sight unseen.

He has always kept his head level, his finances straight and has not allowed incredible wealth to make him a prisoner of his own life or persona. He has continued to go down his own life's checklist and do the things that interest him. How many of us can say we have the time, money, energy and in some cases guts to do the same?

He has continued to reinvent himself in his 30's, his 40's and now his 50's. In the face of immense criticism from people who themselves are afraid to be a third of the man he is.

His radio show may not be NYC's cup of tea. So what? He is being true to himself, doing the show that he wants to do, in a scenario where the odds are incredibly stacked against him. ANYONE taking Stern's seat would be dealing with that. But it does seem like critics and such are being extra vicious towards him, like the prevailing attitude is "we wanted someone other than Howard, but for God's sakes, don't let this guy win...again".

They want to keep him in a box of "ex-VH 80's has been", but if this works, he is out of it on his own terms.

If it doesn't, it's something he wanted to try his hand at, and ENJOYED the experience.

If Stern's audience wants to bag on him, who cares. Dave isn't catering to overweight dockworkers with porn fetishes. You have to pay 12.95 a month for that. Dave is attempting to elevate the discourse AND have fun. That IS Rock N Roll, THAT is rebellious. THAT is also why there is resistance. The fact that there is so much hoopla, positive or negative, proves once again, if nothing else, DLR has them talking.

RESPECT RENEWED TO THE GENERAL...
