I once read that Floyd Rose offered a tremelo for original Les Pauls that did not require any routing of the body.It stated it would require some alteration of the headstock to accommadate the nut.Has anyone done this, and,if so,how did the unit perform.I dont think I would do it to mine, buuuuuut, you never know.Macu...

He suddenly has decided to proclaim his love of PENIS.

That is all I can figure out.

I have never tried one of those Floy units. I always wondered how they worked also, as they just slip around the stop tailpiece.

If I had a Les Paul I would surely not rout ANY of the body...

Are you talking about a Wonderbar? Because a real Floyd would still require routing for the spring cavity, and the stop-talipiece is removed...the Wonderbar just attached to the studs if I recall....

I never liked the idea of a Floyd on a Les Paul.....

Just seemed dumb to me.....

The only person I've heard of doing this is Ed (as in the pics from Vintage Kramer). However Ed has gone on record as saying (about the Les Paul presented to him by Les Paul) - "The only thing I wish he hadn't done was stick a fucking floyd on it".

I've seen Brad Gillis and Neal Schon use LPs w/Floyds also, just off the top of my head....

Kirk Hammett's ESP jobbies (the KH-3), there's another one with the Floyd on it.

Didn't Ace Frehley have that too? I remember seeing a pic in GuitarOne some years back...

Mr. John Sykes famously used an original Floyd Rose on his Les Paul. Great in the Whitesnake days.

Now THAT I had not heard. I read a review of a Whitesnake show back in the day that said he used a Strat with a Floyd for a few songs, but never heard of him doing that to a Les Paul, nor have I seen it in pics of his collection.

Met him a few times, nice guy. I seem to recall him mentioning having a few Charvels...

Yea, Sykesy did. Vandenberg might have played some charvels, but has the Peavey Vandenberg. Reb Beach plays Pensa Suhr's or Charvels famously.

Sykes' was very like Neil Schon's here. Only with a standard LP neck.

Here's Beach's Charvel.

Just for the laugh, check out this massive Peavey Wolfgang in construction..

Dude, I've been sooo lucky. I'm not gonna be a complete name-dropper, but let's just say I've been fortunate enough to meet most of my heroes.:D

And the review I was talking about was from the pre-Vandenberg-Vivian era, back when Sykes first joined Whitesnake, and before the self-titled album.

Back when he was Arockin'. He's a great guitarist, 1987 was brilliant. My band was actually supposed to play support act to Thin Lizzy, whilst Sykes was frontman last year, but it fell through because our drummer's mother died.

Although I was 4inches away from Brian Setzer, when he came to England.

My thoughts exactly.Mine was already routed for a middle p/u by the original owner back in the 60s.The luthier who gave me the body described him as "crazy".

I tend to agree, yet, not exactly sure why.On the one hand,I have another guitar that has the tremelo, soooooooo,I dont really "need" one.I can express myself fine. Also,I never played a Les Paul until I put this one together.(its a big story)However, after playing it for awhile,it just seems right the way it is...
