View Full Version : It's Time to Retire, David.

Now that the Diamond David Lee Roth radio program has been met with almost universal derision, disinterest, and poor reviews, perhaps it's time that David Lee Roth hang up the mic and call it a day.

Let's examine for a minute:

The man has had virtually no solo success to speak of for the last 14 years or more. Every subsequent album he's released has sold worse than the one before it. He has no record label; in essence, anything he deigns to release, he pays for himself. And to ever-dwindling sales from the fan base.

Truth be told? His only moment of life came in 1996 at the hands of Van Halen's two new songs with him that were featured as the main selling point of "Best of Vol. 1" (1996, Warner Bros. Records), "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and "Me Wise Magic".

But, Roth being what he is (and that's difficult to work with, at the very best), Van Halen subsequently showed him the door after an explosion backstage at the 1996 MTV music video awards. Knowing Roth's history of being difficult to work with, this came as no real surprise to anyone in the industry, certainly.

But even with the almost-reunion under his belt, it STILL failed to push his solo career anywhere. The following years best of set, simply entitled "The Best" (and with one new track to boot, the very lazy and unaggressive "Don't Piss Me Off"), sales were a virtual nil.

So where are we at, now?

CBS, as of January 6th of this year, was ALREADY in talks to replace David across the board with Adam Corolla. So poorly reviewed and so poorly performing in his radio show that negotiations to cancel it were already happening within a week.

The question is - with Adam's show being EASILY the better of the two, why hasn't it happened yet?

It's sad how the mighty have fallen, but perhaps the train wreck that is David Lee Roth may yet prove of some amusement to rubberneck to. We can only see.

With the obvious knowledge to anyone with half of their wits that Van Halen will NEVER (for good reasons) trust Roth to front the band again, and with Roth failing at everything he does (the failed publicity stunt as an EMT, his rather lackluster casino concerts, his loss of a record label, a full time band and any interest from the majority of America), perhaps it's time that Dave left the spotlight and realized that his time is up. I think it is.

With the failed 2004 Van Hagar reunion now behind us, it's funny to think that, for as bad of business as it did, it looks like a raging, blowout success compared to ANYTHING Roth's done since 1988. Will Van Halen wise up enough to finally build the bridge with Sammy Hagar and ride off into the sunset the ONLY way they should?

We can only hope - and wait to see.

SO FUCKK ALL YOUR FAGGETS IF YOUE DONT LYKE IT!!! ROTHTARD FAGGS LYKE IT UP THE ASHOLE A LOTT, HUNH!

Excuse me there, uh....old 3 Lock Jaw, still jabbin your garbage? You're IQ is something to be desired...you obviously live in a bubble. You just don't get it. We here at the ARMY don't buy the garbage from you or anyone else, including journalists.....GET AN EFFEN CLUE.

You love to rant and rave about DAVE to draw attention to yourself, but you'll lose everytime, darlin.

DAVE IS KING....SPAM is

Let me take a minute to educate you, if you have enough intelligence to absorb it.

- DLR IS A ROCK LEGEND, whether you want to realize it or not
- SPAM is SPAM....Frontman for Montrose, which was a great band and I give him credit for that. SPAM with VH was nothing but the Hallmark Card Lyrics and VH turned into a "Soft Rock" band along side of Celine Dion and Elton John....That ain't ROCK N ROLL.
- DLR has always been on the cutting edge of whatever he attempted to do....failures or successes...the guy is always at the forefront and doesn't forget his Rock roots...therefore, no matter what he tackles, he always comes back to the fans with Concerts that still sell out, music that is Kick Ass, whether the Classic Van Halen compilation or his own blues and rock masterpieces.
- If the Radio Gig is short lived...so be it. DLR never claimed to be King of All Media, a Shock Jock or otherwise. He's got something to still fall back on, which is his legendary status that will hold the test of time...no matter what.

So despite your Hoo Haa's about critics desperately wanting to see DLR fail.........he never will......He's Huck Finn on the raft of his life adventures and the Radio Gig, my friend, is just a pit-stop.

Let's see if you ever need an EMT to come to your rescue....perhaps we should alert DLR now to let you suffer....you may want his talent upon you then...won't cha?

Now, go back to relieving your Jaw with SPAM.

If he really wants to walk down that road, how has his hero done the last 14 years? Riding on a ghost of a mighty ship, going solo to silence and dropped deals, releasing several more "Greatest Hits" packages, releasing a dismal selling "VH Best of Pt. II", then caps it off with a money losing tour last year which basically ruins the VH franchise in the arena business.

So he retires to Tahoe and sells spots on his "Red Rocker Cruises" and offers up a chance to see him at a "intimate club gig" to select families.

That's pathetic and that is time to retire. DLR has yet to "Rock Out" on a episode of "Emeril Live" hawking bad booze..

Personal Opinion is that VH desperately NEEDED DLR's two cuts on Best of Vol. 1 in order to sell the stupid compilation...if SPAM was such a hot ticket, why didn't they use him to begin with? Well, to answer that question, look at sales w/SPAM's five new cuts on Best of Vol. 2....the numbers reveal the truth....now that should sting ya, 3 Lock...Ouch!

Got Boo Boo ?

Just putting him "In-Check" is all....and you're right...why reply to a moron's judgement...has no substance or weight behind it.

Dropping him like a bad habit....Ciao 3 Lock ...you're history baybee!

I don't give him credit for shit. He sucked in Montrose. They would have been 10 times better with someone else fronting them.

He was the worse possible choice of a lead singer for VH. The absolute worst.

I will weigh in on this in more detail this evening, but I believe the reviews were going to be bad for Dave no matter what. Before Dave's first day it was a given that all the reviews from the critiques would be bad because of who he is. Besides that, who's gonna wanna read an average or good review. People read reviews because they trash people. That being said, I listened to the second half of Dave's show today and thought it was outstanding. He has the wit and voice and sounded great today. The execs at CBS must agree as well or he would have been replaced by now and that would be a bad move on CBS's part. T.

The funny thing is that club in tahoe is weak, very weak. Weak cover bands and the room is tiny. Not a smart venture for Bette Mid.. I mean Sammy Hagar.

Seriously, Jeff...I mean, SERIOUSLY think about it...do you REALLY believe for a second that Sammy's career is in so much better shape than David's?

Hell, even if David fails at the radio, at least he's DONE something...what's Sammy done? A failed tour with Van Hagar, merchandise schemes and a 5150 Love Boat outing?

COME ON, MAN.
