Van Morrison has launched a scathing attack on the internet, insisting it is responsible for the dumbing down of society and modern culture.

The singer is convinced the worldwide web has caused more problems than it has solved, and insists Earth would be a better place without it.

He says, "Now, because of the internet, everyone's suddenly a big shot. I'm talking about people who think that because they've looked up a website, they know everything.

"You used to have to study things but now you can just find it on the internet and everybody feels very important because they have access to this stuff.

"It was a different culture when I was young. Quality, respect - they seem to have vanished."

Case in point: he did a concert some season back that I attended, and someone in the front shouted out for "Brown Eyed Girl". Van responded "Fuck you" and then went on a rant how that song is teeny-bopper bullshit, and that he is A SOUL SINGER. He beratd the guy for more time it would've taken to actually perform the song. It was uncomfortable for the entire audience.

But it makes for a passingly amusing story in retrospect.

I was at this .38 Special show once, and someone shouted out for "Brown Eyed Girl!" Carlisi hit a few beers, and went on a rant about how that song is about some blind dipshit fucking a girl up the ass!!!

Nobody knew what the fuck was going on, and they blasted into "Fantasy Girl!"

IMO, that's the way to diffuse a bullshit situation...for those viewing @ home?

The internet is just a huge library and the search engine is the card catalog. The internet is just a huge cache of information. Whether it's used intelligently or not is up to the user.

Shit, everyone in the world say's education is great and we need more of it. Well, all great universities were built around a good library. Now we have the best library in the whole world and it's rediculousely inexpensive for what you have access to. Why is this a bad thing?

The internet has nothing to do with a lack of respect. The lack of respect is the fucking hippie dip baby boomers doing a shitty job at parenting.
