    Three Dog Night

I guess they're "Two Dog Night" now, since one of 'em died homeless. Nonetheless, every time I hear whatever song of theirs, I think to myself: "Self, these were some weird fuckers."

Melancholy, often disturbing songs with overbearing bass lines and crooning.

IMO, it's the perfect tunage to wash a bunch of muscle relaxers' down with warm Cabernet Sovinyawn to.

    Anyone else?

Good band for their time. I dig 'em.
Tons of memorable tunes/melodies . It's amazing that by the end of the 70's after selling 40 million records Chuck Negron was homeless , addicted to heroin and living on the streets of Hollywood. Someone found him and got him into treatment. Then he reunited with them for a few tours . He's now solo.....

    Ahh , the 70's ......

Trolls take heed...LOG OUT & FUCK OFF!!!

Chuck's not dead! He's just "Born Again"

I think I may have met him when he was strung out on Heroin though. This was like the late 80's and I was working in some convenience store and there was this dude, obviously messed up on something. Looked like the pictures you see of Chuck (only a lot unhealthier) and the voice sounded a lot like the one I would hear in interviews later on the 700 Club.

If it wasn't him, it could have been his twin, but he certainly didn't look like a rock star. Just a pathetic junkie at that point.

I'm happy to hear he came out of that, but it sucks that his bandmates still shun him..

Three Dog Night had some great songs for the time. Some great works of social conscience too:

"Black n White" - about racial harmony

"Joy to the World" - about loving your neighbor (and drinking wine with bullfrogs)

and my personal favorite, even when I was 5 years old

"Out In The Country" - Warned about the dangers to the environment

"Before the breathin air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night time
Out where the rivers like to run
      I stand alone
And take back something worth remembering....."

Hell, I might have to toss their Greatest Hits CD in after "Desolation Boulevard" is over

They were one of my two favorite bands when I was 12 years old...the other being Chicago. I bought every single put out by TDN for several years.

Of course, both bands were HUGE in the early 70s, with MANY hit singles between them.

They were on the radio constantly.

Melody! Yep. IMO, some of it was genius.

......just an old fashioned love song.

              First off,

I CANNOT STAND "Joy to the World!!!"

              Why?

Well, thos of you who "know" me and know my name can understand as to why.

Same goes with that fuckin' Pearl Jam song.

How many people seriously think they're being original or creative singin' that shit to me?

              Anyhoo,

              Maximus lovzzzzzzzzzzzzz Three Dawwwg....

              Heeyas why:

"Wash away my troubles, wash away my pain
              With the rain in Shambala
Wash away my sorrow, wash away my shame
              With the rain in Shambala

              (chorus)
Ah, ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Everyone is helpful, everyone is kind
              On the road to Shambala
Everyone is lucky, everyone is so kind
              On the road to Shambala

              (repeat chorus)

How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala

I can tell my sister by the flowers in her eyes
              On the road to Shambala
I can tell my brother by the flowers in her eyes
              On the road to Shambala

              (repeat chorus)

How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala"

One of the BEST songs ever written, IMO.

It's an Aboriginal term for describing winter temperatures. The colder the night it is, the more dogs would have to sleep with you to keep warm. It was only a 1 - 3 schedule though, so a Three Dog Night was considered DAMN cold.

My favorite song of theirs was not a hit....it was a song on one of their albums called "Lady Samantha" from the album "Suitable For Framing"...

                  HOLY SHIT!!!

I just decided to do an info search on the song, and I found out it was written by Elton john and Bernie Taupin!

                  I find out 35 years later....fucking ridiculous...

They did Your Song also, from It Ain't Easy.

I remember reading from Three Dog Nightmare when Chuck showed up at 2 Dog Night's show and tried to talk them into letting him up for some tunes, Cory Wells response was, Chuck, I've been givin em hamburger for so long I can't give them steak and expect them to have hamburger.
(another band example of the pack dog trying to be the big dog, when it's the sum of the parts that makes the magic). they must have resented Chuck from his problems as well.

They covered a Beatles tune that the Fabs never did...It's for You.

I'm with Ford on Out in the Country...just an amazing tune and I loved their version of Heaven is in Your Mind, which is a combination of harmony and balls from the band.

Of course, Negron banged so many girls his equipment exploded, which of course someone should have jumped on and written a 3 part harmony type tune about, in tribute.

                    another good call Rus

I ordered my first -thru the TV albums- in mid seventies ?

It was K-Tel and it was the greatest hits by Three Dog Night.

I still have it after about 2 months the glue that holds the
cardboard album together desintegrated and I had to tape it up.
Cheap BS but a great recording.

That's my brush with fame as per T-D-Night.

Excellent band and huge tunes .Good Album

Were those type of Albums Bootleg Like, just put together by some
sales co or were they actually released by the bands.?

Come to think of it this album probably wouldn't show up at TDnights
                      web site,,,?

We have a WINNER! The Aboriginal thing is arguable, but the rest is Alaskan gold.

The real trivia question is this...

Who was the first producer TDN worked with back in 1967?
